I was just wondering if anybody has had any view(s) dramatically altered after reading a Blackchat post?

Has blackchat actually played a part in the direction of your life today? And HOW?

Please share your thoughts...

well I would not say totally altered, it just makes me think just a bit harder about the subject.

but blackchat is no different from interacting with people in school. family or freinds they all shape your way of thinking.

i tell you what though, this is addictive, literally i study work partime and after every lecture or break i log into blacknet. I need to stop, people think i am unsociable.

i'll agree with sooofresh in that most peoples ideas won't change dramatically here @blacknet, just like in the real world.

once someone has reached 12 years old, you can basically predict that individual's overall mentality - this will remain consistent, most of their life.

the exceptions to this, are small, but these exceptions are people made much greater through their enlightenment.

the internet though, allows people who probably would never have met, and who share common idealogies, the chance to share their thoughts, ideas and experience.

deep!

exceptonial people are and will be made, by such relationships, formed in cyberspace.

now thats cool!

@All. Well still working on it. But still can't develop any passion for non black women, funny complexion people, US women who confuse weaves with proper hair. People killing black people on behalf of white nations and stuff, Arsenal football team and those kind of of things.

Oh yeah still can't stand a lot of dance hall what is that Chak a chaka Elephant man rubbish.

Sad reallyconfused3 .

Never had anything against Somails etc. But now I know they have their fair share of idiots which I was not wise to until here. So that is enlightening.

I agree with sooofresh and breadfruit.

It reinforces what some of us knew before really. Its a bit like a church, being among like minded people.

We have all learnt stuff though, and blacknet keeps you focused on things from a black prospective which is all good.

The above I think could lead to someone setting up something entirely with an African point of view; that would be dramatic and right!

Hmm!

Had to think about this before posting my comment 2 pence worth.

I like that phrase the Black Chat Effect.

Well of course they're all going to claim inmmunity to the influence that the message in a quality post can have, but that's called -

DENIAL

LOL!

Who me - ah nobody gets one over on me right?

Poppycock!

Well I would have serious reservations about anyone who this was really true for. I'd begin to suspect that I was trying to interact with a corpse.

LOL!

Changing minds

or

Changing behavour

Well I aim to do both -

Using a tried, tested and proven system

The old Good Cop - Bad Cop routine.

A well placed DISS to knock em off balance

followed by -

A gentle loving stroke to the ego

Works like a charm, they never realise what you've done to em - as you see can from the replies so far.

LOL!

That's the Black Cat in Full Effect!

Changed my life? Hardly. I actually stumbled on the site once when I was bored, and come regularly cos when I'm bored at uni(I aint got a tv :( )

A few topics are good, but they are usually ruined by people either insulting or being rude (and also this EXTREMELY ANNOYING habit people have of quoting other people's posts and replying to certain bits in different font colours, and this goes on and on making the thread messy and difficult to read!)

But all that aside I find it amusing(especially trying to understand what the kids in the under-18 forum type e.g. 'am i a sket' ...lol, and all the BAD English used there and the slangs no one but them understand..)

These days everyone seems so hell bent on complaining about BNV so why don't we take a moment to look at the positive.

What have you learnt since being on BNV?

As for me, something I've learnt form a lot of people here are affective ways of educatiing people in my life about issues that are affecting our community that they were otherwise ignorant about.

Nothing I didn't already know - it takes all sorts to make the world!!

Also if blacknet is representative of the African Diasporan community at large, then find your ilk and do your thang as collective progress with a central agenda is not happening for now!! - this can be very positive in the long run...

Good thread.

I have learnt about many different perspectives on arguments I didn't before.  I mean that in a good way.  Certain threads in the past have really make me examine my own reasoning better.  I learned different perspectives on MLK, Malcom, Lenny Henry.

I have learned a great deal about international events such as those Coltrane used to keep us up to date with.  Who heard of Diego Garcia before he posted all about it... relentlessly.

I have learned of insidious tactics we fall into repeatedly that we're all aware of yet continously fall for.  Ladies and gents I speak of the gender and skin tone nonsenses.  These things were barely evident in my life before BN and I can honestly say I didn't even know issues like that plagued us... guess I'm open eyed now.  And weary.

I learned of things in greater detail like the situation in Congo or the Nile situation, the historys of other african nations where I had only really studied my own.  I learnt about the carribean in greater detail.

I have been exposed to many books and writers I didn't before know of.  The same with films like 500 years later or Sankofa which I probably wouldn't have come across without BN.

I have learned of the existence of a few black organisations and what they are about.

I have learned that seperated by water and land we have a great deal in common.  Some of the same fears and worries, and celebrate the same joys and achievments.   Peoples of Africa and African decent.

Coming here has made me really sit on my off time and actually read and research about Africa.  Even being there my concentration was on my job and the mission.  It is interesting to see Africa from a different light than warrior fighting on its shores.

That is not say everything I believe about Africa is rosy, but it is to say that had it not been for me stumpling on this message board some questions and answeres never would have came to me.

I have also learnt that there are enough of us that are like minded and passionate enough to lay the foundations for making a different in our society. With a little organistation, I think its possible for the people of BNV to spawn some sort of change in the areas of our community that need the most outreach and education, youth being a prime example.

I have learned that you all in England know alot about us and we don't know anything about you.

I've learned that our gangsta rap/pop culture has poisoned the entire globe.

I have learned how few of us are actually in the UK 2 % scarey odds.

Thanks to many of your first and second hand knowledge I have learned alot about what goes on in Africa before the media puts their spin on a story.

I have gained a greater appreciation for the African experience.

I have learned to look at African Americans (ignorance/arrogance) from a different prospective.

Oooh I've learnt so much! First of all I'll co-sign Soulstarr point about being amongst likeminded people - it's one the best feelings knowing that people think the same way as you, but more importantly that SOME people are willing and able to do something about a situation instead of just moaning.

Aside from all the African issues I'm taking a great interest in the IT stuff - boy the amount of things I've learnt there has actually added an extra hobby to my list, which is modding.

Blacknet is great. It's the ONLY African fourm that I know of that has a community like ours. You can get advice, knowledge, news; you can laugh and cry at the various stuff people post up - all from the African prospective. Yep it's good.:)

I especially would like to thank Maat and MGL for their continuous informative contributions.

I have learned that we are not isolated individuals, even though we sometimes like to think of ourselves as such.  What I do here in my city or state in the U.S., certainly effects my people in South Africa, Nigeria, Britain, and so forth.  I have become more mindful of this.

I have become a more informed person in regards to African news, politics, consciousness, and perspective.

And perhaps most importantly, I have learned much about myself in my time here.  Through the different discussions even if they turn into bitter arguments, I appreciate those interacting persons for they helped me better see the world and myself in it.

Blacknet has given me insight on blacks black britans. Before I came on this board, my sisters best friend visited London and she told me her experience is that blacks in the UK were more or less assimilated with whites, they didnt socialize or group together like they do here. I saw tv images, Uk movies i watched where the black characters almost always had a white mate/partner, and played the black token friend to the white characters.  But being here on blackchat and talking to black britans i see all that isnt necesarily true. There are  many young black britans idolize rap culture, who are well informed they are on black american history, and admire black leaders like Malcolm X and Martin Luther King just like black americans.  Its also been awakened to the racism that exists in the Uk.  And i suppose i've gotten a bit of schooling on british slang as well.:)

But overall being on blacknet and seeing how many intelligent and self conconcious posters on here(save for a few) makes me optimistic about the future of our people. You just dont know how many blacks that seemed so concerned about their personal life that issues of race and what going on with blacks around the world are unimportant to them. Blacknet is a place where i can express my views on issues concerning our race because in real life I really cant converse with many blacks when it comes to these subjects. If they are uncle toms then subjects about race will be taboo. And others dont know enough for me to have a deep intellectual conversation with them. I certainly cant talk about africa or african issues with most black americans that im surrounded by, because many dont know, dont care, or  have such ignorant views concerning africans that it just pi**es me off if the subject of africans even comes up. Ive been to Bet, hair forums, and other black websites that are filled with ignorant people who dont know what the hell they are talking about. No matter what you tell them, how much you try to convince them they simply dont get it. Blacknet is one of the only places I can trust wont bombard me with mind dulling ignorance.
