Now tell me folks! What did you think this thread was going to be about when you saw the title?
Exactly!
That's what I thought when I saw this as a news headline on my msn homepage. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was actually a news article about the likes of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and the 'new generation of Hollywood IT girls. It was about (though I couldn't be bothered to read it all) some Professor's comments on the 'bad girl' behaviour of the current crop of girlie (I am loathed to call the women) celebrities.
It got me wondering. Is this (I am talking about the thinking behind the headline) another example of the way the 'white community' adopt 'black-isms' (for the want of a better phrase) into their culture.
They may well reject us as a people, but they sure have a penchant for our 'style'....lol
What do you think?
Respect

A white woman called Mary Higgs (a philantropist) used the term 'sisters' in one of her pamphlets in the late 19th Century....
But I understand what your saying....Culturally both Europe and the US we have always had a major influence

Think 'sisters' was appropriated a long time ago by white feminists amongst others, so I wouldn't see it as a distinctively 'black' expression, at least not these days. And is it a bad thing if phrases that originate 'from us' take on widespread usage in this or any other culture? Can be, but isn't always....
I had no idea what the story would have been about from the headline; had I come across it and found it was about Britney and her ilk, page would be turned. End of story with no further thought.
Apart from anything else, the song the headline is presumably derived from is by Aretha and Annie Lennox, so is it really a 'black' song?
I recognise the phenomenon, but think this instance is a relatively mild version of it. Just my two cents.
