We have the power by Lester Holloway

12/6/2007

CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER Jesse Jackson said Britain's Black community has the power to force change but have to learn how to use it.

Rev Jesse Jackson speaks at Lambeth Town Hall last Saturday.Hailed as a "living legend" before a packed audience in Lambeth Town Hall, the two-time US presidential candidate announced he was backing a British version of his Rainbow Push coalition.

Rev Jackson conducted a walkabout in Brixton last Saturday before addressing a "leaders' leaders meeting" where he said the way forward for the Black Diaspora was international organisation.

He said: 'We need a coalition so we can share information. We need an infrastructure like multinationals have.  'Rev Jackson said shareholder action had been a powerful tool to bring about race equality in America.   Taking out shares entitled people to ask questions such as how many contractors or lawyers dealing with takeover bids were black.

lessons

Rev Jackson said he will embark on a UK-wide tour in August to help promote a new body called Equanomics UK, which aims to build a unique British version of Rainbow Push by looking at the economics of race equality.

Arts minister David Lammy and Rev Jackson at Lambeth Town Hall.
Rev Jackson said: 'When God said to Noah there was going to be a flood, he didn't say “taking swimming lessons!

Some people will say I don't need to be on the boat because I'm a barrister, I can swim. You can swim, but not 40 days and nights without stopping.'   Gesturing towards Arts minister David Lammy and fellow MP Dawn Butler, who also spoke at the gathering, Rev Jackson said: 'While votes will get David and Dawn in office, your money will get you contracts.

'You have leverage power. We're moaning and groaning about division when we've got the power.'   Rev Jackson visited Brixton on the invitation of The 1990 Trust and Operation Black Vote, and later spoke to the congregation at the Kingsway International Christian Centre in Hackney.

fast

Karen Chouhan, head of The 1990 Trust, said the Equanomics initiative will "focus on education and empowerment and help get our young people to aspire to higher things."

Simon Woolley of Operation Black Vote  Lee Jasper, chair of Operation Black Vote, added: 'We are news kids on the block but we are catching up fast.

'This bicentenary year will see the church and community come together as equals in the biggest single voter registration drive this year.' The event heard calls for black businesses in the UK to do more business with Africa.

And in an era of advanced technology there was no excuse for Black people not to be building each other everyday.   There were also pleas for Britain's communities to pay more attention to the plight of our people across the globe including the battles they face.

Simon Woolley, coordinator of OBV, said: 'We are taking the next project forward for educating and empowering Britain thaty will serve notice on every political party bar none, and will link the Diaspora in a global movement that makes a difference.'

David Lammy said: 'We are here because this is so important to us. It will take a renewal of parenting in the Black community. All of these things mean that it is important that we are a community that votes, that we want the barriers in our way to come down.

'We want to see ethnic minority shortlists. The truth is it will be until 2087 that Parliament is representative of today’s numbers of Black community in this country. That’s why Black communities need to make their voice heard.'

Before any coalitions need to be foremd.....peopel have to view themselves as human beings...no different than anybody else...not inferior to ANYBODY.

If you can convince peopel to beleive this one thing.....certain disrespect attitudes towards Black consumers would not exist.......those who openly disrespect us would go out of business in 2 months.....

But if black people over the pond are anything like some of us over here.......we woul drather go BACK to disrespectful store and SPEND money.....than to go out of our way to patronize another store where our money is valued.

If we can ever get over this hurdle of self respect......perhaps greater things can follow....

Until then.....it's just talk.

"better parenting"...we definately need

the number of mannerless , out of order youths who don't understand why education is the key rather than running "crews" after their parents worked so hard to keep food on their table is just beyond coincidence...

It's not all thats needed but it'll go a long way to shake things up to our advantage...

I tell you what is interesting, yeterday i watched an old VHS recording of a PACM event, in aid of ROLAND ADAMS...remember him folks?    PACM i think invited Al Sharpton to come to the UK, to support the ROLAND ADAMS campaign, there was BIG well attended march that in North London, that culminated in a big town hall event at the Selby centre Tottenham.. Bernie Grant (rip) was there the leadership of PACM, the Leadership of what is now known as Alkabulan was there and averitable who's who in Black british activism of the period was there...must have been over a 1000 people easily in the hall that night...

Now here's the point that took place 1991... a Black boy killed by racism,
Roland Adams was a 15 year old black youth from London who was murdered in 1991. The attack was racially motivated, with Adams dying as a result of a stab wound to the neck after being attacked by a gang of fifteen white youths. At the time the BNP publicly congratulated the murderers for "defending their estate" in leaflets distributed around the area, and Adams' father received "abusive phone calls, up to ten times a night"[1] and in the end was forced to move house.

17 years later...Black boys are being called N.igga/N.igger by other black boys, and Black boys are defending their post code  by Killing  other BLACK boys... who needs the BNP or the NF eh?

What went wrong?

Maybe the 1990 Trust and Operation Black Vote can help you.

Alternatively, what did Jesse Jackson say about it at the publicity stunt?

What went wrong?

Biggie Smalls - Things done changed.

Shootin skelly, motherf**kers was all friendly
Loungin at the barbeques, drinkin brews
With the neighborhood crews, hangin on the avenues

Turn your pagers, to nineteen ninety three
N****rz is gettin smoked g, believe me

Talk slick, you get your neck slit quick
Cause real street N****rz ain’t havin that sh*t

Totin techs for rep, smokin blunts in the project
Hallways, shootin dice all day
Waitin for N****rz to step up on some fightin sh*t
We get hype and sh*t and start fightin sh*t
So step away with your fist fight ways
Motherf**ker this ain’t back in the days,

but you don’t hear me though

Verse two:

No more cocoa leave-io, one two three
One two three, all of this to me, is a mystery

I hear you motherf**kers talk about it
But I stay seein bodies with the motherf**kin chalk around it
And I’m down with the sh*t too
For the stupid motherf**kers wanna try to use kung-fu
Instead of a mac-10 he tried scrappin
Slugs in his back and, that’s what the f**k happens
When you sleep on the street
Little motherf**kers with heat, want ta leave a N****r six feet deep
And we comin to the wake
To make sure the cryin and commotion ain’t a motherf**kin fake
Back in the days, our parents used to take care of us
Look at em now, they even f**kin scared of us
Callin the city for help because they can’t maintain
Damn, sh*t done changed

Verse three:

If I wasn’t in the rap game
I’d probably have a key knee deep in the crack game
Because the streets is a short stop
Either you’re slingin crack rock or you got a wicked jumpshot

sh*t, it’s hard being young from the slums
Eatin five cent gums not knowin where your meals comin from
And now the sh*t’s gettin crazier and major
Kids younger than me, they got the sky grand pagers

Goin outta town, blowin up
Six months later all the dead bodies showin up
It make me wanna grab the nine and the shottie
But I gotta go identify the body
Damn, what happened to the summertime cookouts?
Everytime I turn around a N****r gettin took out

sh*t, my momma got cancer in her breast
Don’t ask me why I’m motherf**kin stressed, things done changed

---

One of my favoirte tracks

Its real, was even going to make a topic about the cook outs we used to have back in the day, remember going to my local park with my family and friends having a BBQ, proper big ol' BBQ cause thats family AND friends... out in the states and canada they have block get togethers and stuff but we're so babylonious we don't even do that anymore.

Is Jesse Jackson suggesting mandatory accounting for Black kids in school?

Is he suggesting good books since the palefaces will select crummy ones to dribble out info as slowly as possible?

What is he saying about technology so people can recognize planned obsolescence is going on?

We'd need our own schools for that. We can't be expectnig them to teach accounting and (real) history, I mean, would they take the black kids to one side and teach them? confused3

Think ecomomics in general would be the best thing to teach as it encompasses accounting, business and so on. There are groups looking to start Black schools in the UK, you should look to join and put your veiws across. Have read your posts on it before and you're right.

Don't forget the "Covenant" also.

http://www.covenantwithblackamerica.com/

But I am beginning to wonder.  Maybe all we know how to do is b**ch and moan about the way things are.  Maybe that's all the action we are willing to take.  We are good aren't we?  We can point out problems of certain celebrities, politicians, etc.  We can talk about rap music, r&b, tv shows, etc., etc.

But in the end, all we do is mostly talk sh!t.  And then we wonder why we don't go anywhere.  The only way we will get anywhere is if we can convince enough of us to pull in one direction.  Complaining about the wagon not moving won't move it. Pulling in 90 different directions doesn't get it done either.  But if we could just stop with the distractions, the insults, the craziness, the weird individuality, etc., etc., we could finally do something.

Its weird.  We all feel this issue of inferiority, based on the conduct of other "Black" folks. Most on this board are probably pretty educated, probably make a decent amount of money, etc.  Most probably have pretty important jobs and decent careers, yet we are all dissatified because our happiness is tied to the perception and the well-being of our "group".

And we don't even discuss that. We just harp on the same garbage FoxNews, Larry Elder, and others do. Its frustrating.  Its frustrating to see that racism has so severely messed us up, we can't even figure out how to foster enough cooperation to better our communities as a whole.  In fact, we can't even sit down and have a common sense discussion about doing something.

Sometimes racism/"White" supremacy, can be an awesome thing to behold.

What is the Covenant with Black America?

The Covenant with Black America is a national plan of action to address the primary concerns of African Americans today -- from health to housing, from crime to criminal justice, from education to economic parity. The frustration and angst felt by Black Americans post-Hurricane Katrina, from California to the Carolinas, is palpable. As we move toward the national elections of 2006 and 2008, Black Americans are entitled to have questions answered and visions shared of where our leaders want to take this country and a blueprint for how we get there.

Why A Covenant and Why Now?

As we witnessed in the 2004 presidential election, Americans are deeply divided between race, class, gender, political ideology and moral values. A divide so extreme, that in order to bridge it, we must speak openly, freely, without judgment and work together. It is imperative that we take this opportunity to consider the issues of particular interest to African Americans and to establish a national plan of action to address them. No longer can we sit back and expect one political party, one segment of the population or one religious denomination to speak for us or to act on our behalf. It is our responsibility as an entire community to no longer be left behind politically, socially, or economically and to bridge the economic and social divides ourselves, by encouraging a conversation and a commitment that will inevitably benefit all Americans.

We need an environment that encourages kids to learn, but to what degree do computers and the internet make conventional schooling obsolete?    I live across the street from a grammar school.  I have watched little kids going to class wearing backpacks so big you could put half the kid inside.  ROFL

I have one of these:

http://www.pvp4u.com/archives/2005/01/archos_pma400_3.html

It has a 30 gig hard drive.  It could play educational videos.  It could run tutoring software.  I have downloaded book reading software.  It could easily hold 15,000 books and it fits in my pocket.  So why do little kids need backpacks that can hold 50 pounds of books.

http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/111/1/163

It is like we are dealing with a culture that creates and makes people do idiotic busywork that makes absolutely no sense.  Idle hands are the devil's workshop.  ROFL

I consider economics and accounting to be just different perspectives on the same subject.  But the smart people want the dumb people to stay dumb.
