Right, wasn't sure where to post this but...
What if you could find a vaccine to various drug addictions? Is it possible?
By isolating the agents that cause addiction in various drugs, skag, crack even coke. You could then find a way of cancelling or limiting its injestion into the system and so cure a persons addiction.
I just typed this out and lost it, damn site went dead for a bit, kinda messed up what i had to say but... is it then possible to cancel the effect of said drug on a person thus curing their addiction to it as they wouldn't get the high they crave?
Was surprised to find out how many of InI are into khemistry, the greys are probably all over stuff like this already and would patent it to high heaven making it too expencive to be put to use as it should, not as though the NHS would be doling out cures to help anyone.
Anyway... is it possible? What do y'all tha'nk?
Htp

In my opinion, after knowing a little bit about heroin addiction, not personally but with a close family member...I dunno.
You see, they give heroin addicts who have remained clean for a certain period of time a medicine called Naltrexone (sp?) which blocks the effect of heroin even if an ex-addict was to relapse. But in my experience the heroin addicts then choose another drug to become addicted on.
For a person to truly be cured of addiction it must be a conscious decision that they have made, and they must want to change.

Point.
Guess you can't cure the reason behind their addiction too easy.

That's exactly it. You must solve/work through the reason behind the addiction to truly cure the addiction.

Thats near enough impossible in most cases though, there must be a way to find out what causes addiction in those drugs (all of them) and cancel it out while helping with their other problems prehaps.
Theres a cure for everything why not drug addiction?

Ok, I've been around quite a few heroin addicts, and behind each one these people's addiction there was a reason. One of the guys I know had been a heroin addict for well over 10 years. He is now clean, has a job, looks after his family. The reason behind his addiction was not having a dad to look up to. His addiction stopped after being sent to prison. It shocked him into reality, and he decided to change his life.
An addict is an addict regardless of what they may be addicted to, and if someone is intent on self-destructive behaviours, they will substitute one vice for another.
My opinion is truly that; for an addiction to be cured that the reasons behind the addiction must be worked on.
And like I told you about that drug called Naltrexone, I knew another guy that took this for a while but after a while stopped taking it and slipped back into his addiction. Only after had he hit rock bottom did he realise that he must make a change, and that guy too has been clean of his ex-heroin addiction since 2003.
In regards to your question directly though, for heroin addiction I know that there is an impant that can put under the skin that releases the correct amount of medicine each day. I don't know what it is called though?
However, having said all that I still think that the reasons behind the addiction must be addressed to be truly cured of the addiction.
