50 cent had 10% ownership in vitamin water.  After the Coke purchase of vitamin water he made 400 million from that deal.  At least he's making sensible decisions these days and not parading ignorance in the media and sounding like a hyper ghetto drop out like Camron.

I don't listen to much hip hop anymore, but I still follow the news and I found this news interesting. ... making your money make money.

They have to wait for clearance as it might breach antitrust laws but it looks like his ownership % is legit

That is 'gangster' as he likes to say. I sure hope he redistributes some of that wealth. Can't take it with you as they say

This is 50 cent who is determined to NOT make it to reach the age of 30 by pissing off everyone he can before he thinks about what he said......

I take that back, he KNOWS who to mess with.  When Yayo attacked that boy supposedly, 50 distanced himself from that quickly because he knew that the boy's father was an underground kingpin and 50 was not untouchable LOL

He is smart as he KNOWS whom to pick a fight with and who will leave him laying beside Pac and Biggie.......

While 50 Cent fans may be disappointed that the chart-topping rapper's album Curtis has been pushed back from June until September, the Queens, NY rapper may have reason to brag on his new single "Straight to the Bank," as Glacéau, makers of vitamin water, have been acquired by The Coca-Cola Company today (May 25) for $4.1 billion dollars.

50 Cent invested in Glacéau in 2004 and owns 10% of the company. Sources told AllHipHop.com that Coca-Cola's cash purchase of Glacéau earned the rapper estimated $400 million dollars.

Glacéau also markets and sells a grape flavored energy drink inspired by 50 Cent named "Formula 50."

"This is an outstanding opportunity for both of our companies to build an expanded active lifestyle business, first in the United States and then around the world," said Muhtar Kent, president and chief operating officer of The Coca-Cola Company. "Glacéau and its brands also provide us with highly attractive longer-term international opportunities. We look forward to discussing with glacéau's distributors and our bottling partners the best operating model for glacéau's routes-to-market."

The company will operate as separate business unit within Coca-Cola North America (CCNA), allowing the company to continue to grow and marketplace, while taking advantage of Coca-Cola's marketing, management and distribution resources globally.

"It's a perfect match connecting the hottest active lifestyle brand with the full resources of the world's best beverage company," said J. Darius Bikoff, glacéau founder and chief executive officer. "To best understand today's announcement, you really need to go out, buy a bottle of vitaminwater and try it for yourself to see how well it works."

Glacéau's top three executives are the aforementioned Bickoff, Mike Repole and Mike Venuti. Each one will remain with the company for a minimum of three years and other key management will remain with the company.

The transaction is expected to close in 2007 and is subject to customary regulatory review.

I read this too.

I remember when  board members were attacking me when I brought up the point that 50 cent is smart guy.

He and the current crop of rappers are smart in the sense that they understand how influential their music and culture is....so rather then become glorified endorsers and make white people rich.....they are staking their claims at ownership.

Plenty of talented and successful singers/rappers/entertainers from the past made other people very rich off of THEIR labor and creativity.......this new crop isn't going for that.  That's what  I meant.

They don't take endorsement money..they enter profit sharing, equity sharing  partnerships or create their own financial vehicles...and THAT is smart.

50 was at least smart enough (not that he's "smart" by a long shot) to hire decent finiacial advisors! I remember him being in the news about a year or 2 ago when he bought Mike Tysons' repossessed home (I forgot how much it was worth maybe 14 million) for like 3 million. Anyway, it was ridiculously low, and I was totally shocked he didn't do like must idiots do when they get weatlh for the first time: Either go out and buy  10 luxury cars that they cant' afford or go get dupped into buying an overprized house they also can't afford!

Are you kidding....redistribute the wealth?  He will probably buy himself a bigger bouncing car, house, or charm for his neck.

Man listen to all the hate/jealousy on here.I'm by no means a fan of this guy.But he is shrewd business man if this happened.

Now if he bought some stripclubs or another clothing line folks would have been saying that he was the typical rapper.

There is a special kind of hatred for 50 cent. The likes of which I do not beleive we will see again

I don't know if its his unrepetant 'gangster' attitude, his close links with Eminem, his money or a combination of all 3.

You would think he was the founder of gangster rap. People have been talking about  putting caps in N****rs and b**ches and hos long before he came and will talk about it after he is out of the game

Anyways, good on him for investing in this company. Don't think he will get to a billion but 400m+ will do I suppose lol

His financial advisors are shrewd, doubt 50 made a concious desicion to buy 10% of that company.

Its hard not to grudge him his wealth when he is such a fool and almost singlehandedly reduced hip hop to beef hop in 2 short years.

Also, if he used some  of that huge amount of money like Oprah or Bill Cosby would and do something for his community then cool.   His latest blonde bimbo will certainly see the fruits of that deal.

Its his money and no doubt he will waste it as he sees fit!

I cannot believe the fickleness of some people. Wise move money wise or not, he is a COON and his success should not be celebrated by ANY African, whoever they are!

It seems some people delude themselves that African Americans and other Africans are in competition when it comes to monetary achievements of their public figures. But one thing people like Mr "middle aged, i have no life of my own and will defend anything American" Burning Spear seem to forget is that whatever wealth these COONS make is 1) out of insulting our COLLECTIVE identity and 2) its for them and their Jewish lawyers and maybe their future racially confused looking offsprings.

So in light of the above, why celebrate 50's wealth? confused3 How in Maat's name is this of ANY good for YOU as an average African American?confused3

This is like me celebrating that idiot AKON's success just because he is C.African......thats just plain dumb.

And please don't tell me about the small changes they throw at you via "charities"........if he making these money via messing up our children's brains with idiotic music lyrics, then we have NO business calebrating his wealth!

So can we please leave emotions out of this discussion and stop taking out "tribalistic" spears out whenever an African of a certain geographical area is criticised. And i will be honest to say that MOST of the time it's SOME African Americans and Nigerians on this board who starts those kinds of arguments. Quite frankly, one is sick of it........if some of you think you are not of the African race and immune to CONSTRUCTIVE cricism, then may i suggest you visit forums that are exclusively for over sensitive AA or Nija etc.

Ahh, i feel much better after that....now i awaits the scolding...or not:)

David Wright Cashes In On Vitamin Water Deal

Matt WatsonPosted May 29th 2007 2:50PM by Matt Watson
Filed under: New York, Mets, NL East, MLB Gossip
Vitamin WaterIf you were paying attention this weekend, you may have heard the news that Coca-Cola bought out the sports drink company Vitamin Water for a cool $4.1 billion. You don't need an MBA to realize that's "a very good thing" for Vitamin Water's early investors ... which include Mets third basemen David Wright.

You see, Wright started endorsing the product last year, but instead of getting paid, he accepted a 0.5% stake in the company. And while 0.5% may not sound like much, it is once you consider the final sale price. From the New York Post:

Based on Cokes super-sized cash offer, Wright's stake is now worth nearly $20 million - enough to buy about 10 million bottles of the enhanced water.

"We sat down, and them being a Queens company and the Mets being in Queens, they wanted to develop a long-term relationship with me," Wright said before last nights game in Miami against the Marlins.

Wright said he was "extremely pleased" with the deal, but insisted his take is "not even close" to $20 million. He said he didn't know the exact amount.

Whatever it comes down to, it's still an awfully nice chunk of change ... though not as much as the $400 million that rapper 50 Cent earned from his 10% investment in the company.

=========================================

David Wright is a white baseball player.....

in the words of Reginald Lewis....

This past weekend, we helped my friend's mom move...it was incredibly hot and humid..we sent one of the kids to the store to get Gatorade....they were out..he got us this Vitamin Water formula 50 stuff...

it tastes like the quarter waters.....if you're from any urban area..you know what quarter water is ....the cheap artifically flavored "juice" drinks sold in corner stores...for 25 cents.

THAT's why his drink is so popular in the hood....it tastes JUST like the other crap.....Gatorade would have been better....

========================================================

50 and all these other entertainers doing these kinds of deals is good overall for the next wave of artists and entrepreneurs....music business is based on record company pimping the artist

(TLC. for example..sold 10 million copies of one album and made minimum take home money from it, but company made millions )

That model and way of thinking is OVER......entire world is following what these hip hop artists are doing....and they need to be the ones capitalizing off of that influence.
