Man the otherday I was comming out of the train station, A young dude begged me for change... I mean this brotha really begged so I gave him £1 then the cheeky bugger asked me for another pound so I ran him off like a stray dog..I noticed he was dressed reasonably well decent shirt and cargo shorts..clean shoes. and he looked about 25..
Now I know those of us who live in nmajor cities beggers aint nothing new BUT WTF is up with all these young brothas beggin???
I remember when i was kid and beggers used to be called bums and winos. They looked bad..smelled like liquor or BO and was in their 60s and 70s. They looked beaten and down on their luck..you could sympathize with that.
whats up with these young dudes begging...mofos have NO pride anymore...

Crack cocaine bruv!...thes bums are all robbing from their mothers. One begged me a change and I told him sorry mate, two kids and a mortgage. he said "don't tell me about kids, I've got 7"...
While opening his hand to show me what he'd already collected, another begged me an change...biggest mistake, I saw the amount in his hand...about 15 pence and said, is that how much you have already, you're doing better than me!
These dudes have either sold out or have been sold out..but i suspect the former. asd my friends dad said, don't feel srry for them, a' wickedness!

I hear you black power and I agree this sort of thing is now becoming much too common in the inner cities.
However bruv I got news for you it aint just the brovas begging either, I have been aproached by a lot of these albanian women and on some occassions young sisters my daughters age have aproached me asking if I could lend them £2.
Although I had the money to give I told the young black girl concerned that I had a daughter her age and I would not give her any money for the simple reason I didn't want to encourage her, or lead her into a mindset of begging men for money as a young sister.
As who knows where that sort of behaviour can lead, What I'm trying to say is if a young girl begs men for money and is successfull she may become dependent on that sort of lifestyle and grow up thinking it's okay to beg old men like me, and I know for a fact some men may take advantage of that situation and before you know it you have a situation where a young woman is selling her body for money.
Okay maybe I'm reading into this a bit deep but I'm just telling you how I see things.
Back on topic
The brothers that beg make me sick to be honest as when I came here to this country from the caribean we didn't beg we had to work and to be honest with you the only bums you used to see back then were old white bums in doorways and in their dirty clothes with a bottle of beer in their hand.
Nowadays Some of the young people have these drug addictions because they are looking for a crutch to support their weak minds.
I would say to any black person don't give money to any brother or sister you only encourage them, remember England is a country where people don't need to be begging , there are many types of support available to support genuine people in need, It's all about accessing it.
You would be better off directing them towards help to deal with their drug habbit
Sorry if my view is a bit harsh but I'm an old dude from the caribean and I never begged anyman for what I got I came to england and sweat for my money.

man it pisses me off bigtime.. even small scale begging
I remember when I used to use the busses alot it used to make me cringe to see black men asking folk at the bus stop if they had a spare ciggerette... even though some people would say thats a minor I always thought to myself "you need to smoke that bad that your gonna ask a stranger OR WORSE ask him if you can SHARE the fag"
oh and beggin doesnt stop and objects... I also hate to see brothers running women on road who are clearly not interested....

thats what pisses me off about this country....the lazy ass benifit culture...lets beg and claim foolishness..
the system was set up to help people who couldnt possibly help themselves but now look at it...black peole (the only people Im concernd about) SOME have reached a level where they have NO shame...will walk down a whole line of people and ask them for 10 and 20 pence.... makes me cringe

| I bought a tramp brotha some chinese and it was like christmas come early. seemed to have a genuine hard luck story but to end up on the street begging...when you could be selling the big issue...something more sinister is at work.

So many of these guys have lost all pride and self-respect. It's really disgusting when you see the same person year in and year out panhandling at a particular spot telling you "good morning" when passing going to work...and waiting when you return in the evening with something like "so how was your day?". They chase behind people for their cigarette butts and scream for them if they see someone is about to snuff them out on the ground. It's really pathetic.
They have this habit of opening and closing the door leading to the bank and tell you to give them coins when you exit. One guy started sleeping in a local bank branch and would scramble to his feet to get the door when customers came to use the ATM. I find they try to force you to know them by constantly chatting you up and whining how they only need a certain amount more to get what they need. They even try to suck up to small children.

Rockette - I used to wonder how comes t's the same people until i done a job at a mental hospital and saw some of the beggars there getting medication. If there is a local mental health hospital in the area it could be someof these beggars are simply out for the day and doing their thing before they return.
Some beggars are genuinely ill.

While we on the subject of vagabonds,beggars I can remember somthing about five years ago when I was sitting having my lunch in the chapel gardens at St pauls in City on my lunchbreak.
This middle aged well dressed guy in a suit was hanging about and kinda made me feel uneasy, to look at him he looked like a City gent the way he was dressed. Before I knew it this guy was rusling through the nearest bin and he managed to pull out some half eaten pasta or something.
He started eating it before my very eyes I could not believe what I was seeing as this guy apeared to be a city worker.
As he yamed his way down this pasta from the bin I couldn't help but think I had seen this guy somewhere before.
Even at my age I'm a man who never forgets a face and all of a sudden it dawned on me.
This White fella in his city gent atire was the very same gent I had seen begging a couple of days ago outsite St Pauls Station. Only then he had been dressed in rags and begging tourists for money.
This is a true Story that actually happened. Since that I have always been suspicious about white people when they beg you for money.

Some are mentally ill, but most are not...just no pride and have given up in life. They'd rather stand outdoors all day long in the elements than try to do anything for themselves or acquire any skills which they can get for free. I once passed a guy panhandling by the subways and later saw him clasping hands with another guy and it appears they exchanged something. Awhile later when I passed that subway again, he was back up there doing the same. Many of them live with relatives who get tired up them hounding them all day long for money. If they receive monthly checks...it's spent well before the next one arrive. I always tell them I have bills to pay and they do not.

My friends and i were talking about the exact same thing yesterday. I am sure ten years ago there weren't many African men begging, in fact i only ever saw one but in the last couple of years the number of black men begging has surpassed the white beggars on the street, so much so i made a joke about white tramps will soon be complaining about black people taking over their jobs  .
On a serious note i personally don't believe all of the sudden there could be an explosion of beggars and mentally ill black men on the street with out any major reason. I seriously believe if someone was to conduct an investigation i am sure they will probably find some sort of common thing connecting all of them and it'll probably point to the health services as well.

Some of these 'young brothers' are being brought up in households where their parents are asking them for money or to go out and get them a 'draw', If they go out and teef their parents turn a blind eye, rub their hands and collect from the loot, of course they have no damn shame!

I always give change to people when I can, can't help it sometimes. Once I was working in Central and some guy was at the ATM machine begging. Told him I had no change but it got me heart felt so I bought him a can of drink, some snacks and gave him two cigs.

Here they beg from everyone even children. Some will have a stray dog on a leash to garner sympathy from animal lovers. Others place a patch over an eye or tell you they are HIV positive...anything to get what they want. One lady wasn't having much luck one day and lashed out with: "what pitiful muthaf**kas...no one has anything!"

Those Albanians make me mad. Coming round the train begging with a baby on their back or a toddler in their arms. Sometimes they just had you a note asking for money because they can't speak English. Sometimes they bang some dry instrument or walk up and down wailing... make me mad.
As for those fools by the ATM they have no logic. I'm at the ATM because I have no money on me and I'm drawing some out. If they think I'm giving a beggar PAPER money they must be mad. Would make more sense to beg outside a newsagents because at least then people have COIN money

They use the little kids and dogs as props...saying they are trying to provide meals for them. I sometimes wonder if those are even their children or who would allow them to accompany such people.

My response to them 90% of the time is "GET A FRIGGING JOB".
If you are able bodied, you dont get my sympathy. I worked in flipping Burger king years back, thats was straight off the plane from Niaja, they've had a head start, yet i had to come and do the job they didnt feel like doing.
There are 4 types of beggers that always without fail incur my wrath.
1) the ones that set up stall beside an ATM machine, im like WTF, do you think ATM machines mete out change ? Telling me "spare a change for the homeless. GTFOOH.
2) This ones really get my blood boiling, when i decide ( on rare occasions) to actually give change, most times, its probably the last shrapnels in my pocket, the ungrateful prats look at me like " Is that all you are going to give me you tight sod?" I tell them straight up, if you dont want it, give it back, You ungrateful toerag.
3) This ones actually make me laugh, They walk up to you asking you to "spare a change for the homeless", you look beside them and they have a frigging dog for company. I sometimes ask them, dont mind feeding you but im i suppose to feed your dog too ?  .
You are on the streets begging for change, looking dishevelled and haggard, yet your dog is looking fat and rosey.
4) Then you have the ones i call "dumb serial beggers", they are always within 100meters of a particular area. They give you the same story everytime, im like, damnn deja vu, i am sure i saw you here last week, and the week before, you aint found a job yet ? Punk thats a KFC over there, go in there and get a frigging form or thats a car wash down the road, go ask for a job.

Man you know how many years I been sayin this???? That and the cash point thing! Here I am living in my damn overdraft and these people think i'm some kinda high roller just cos i have a bank account. Please!
Anyway, I tend not to give money to beggers, largly because I believe that 90% of the cases are drug related and I'm not feeding anyones crack habit. All that does is keep them on the streets. I did make a new years resolution to start buying the big issue as my contribution to society, until I saw one of their vendors in a betting shop. Deceptive old crow even had the nerve to still be wearing the badge in the place! Plus the woman who sells it in my area always has flippin can of beer by her side so aint no way i'm fueling some old alcoholic either
