coltrane is on point.....
from what I gather.....competing countries in europe scrambled inot the continent after Belgium "claimed" a certain territory and began exporting out raw materials and exploiting the people.....
the same way that europe scrambled to venture to the "so called new world of north and south america...."during colnial period...... and claim lands to exploit .....the same thing was touched off when the scramble for Africa began..........
technically they were staking claim and planting flags so as not to follow behind in the riches that were to be discovered in these lands...gold, diamonds, rubber, etc....
imperialism and capitalism.....just like dude said...

Why there was a scramble for Africa by the europeans ?simple the europeans wanted to exploit the rich resourses and minerals and anything else that Africa had that they could get fat and rich on.
