This is a really good thread
I will be visiting London in a few weeks so all this information will be handy.
There used to be a black book store in Brixton near the market that I used to go to, but I was told it closed down. Don't know if this is true.
Can anyone recommend any good black bookstores in London, preferably North or South London.

Great thread - I too think its important to support black business....but I don't wear weaves or perm my hair and there is only so much harddough bread and yam a girl can eat. We definitely need to diversify...all our money is in food and hair....thats Peckham Rye Lane...is the way it is.

plenty of other kinds of businesses which black people do, which I have seen, i.e. law firms, accountancy firms,. I am simply keeping in line with the thread topic.
However considering that the hair industry is a billion dollar industry I think its important to high light the shops which are owned by us, instead of looking for every excue under the son to buy from others.

I hear what you're saying Judge, but this is part of the issue the fact that the thread is about hair and food. What about a thread entitled "Black businesses - supporting your own"??? We limit ourselves, we have such a narrow view of our own interests, that we can't progress or evolve as a people.
And yes, hair is a billion pound industry. But I would be reluctant to support them black owned or not. These shops sell poisonous products, relaxers and perm kits, etc. How many of these shops sell natural products? Its just a thought...but I guess this discussion should be saved for another thread.

I can't remember if I mentioned this one before but there is a big Caribbean Restaurant in Broadway Indoor Market, in Tooting Broadway called Angies Unit 56 -58
Also there is a independant College founded by a Nigerian based in Stockwell called
Concepts College http://www.conceptscollege.co.uk
They have bases in Brixton, Ireland, Italy, and Nigeria. The cover a wide range of NVQs, Business Management courses, Law, etc
