i have been to derby, manchester, birmingham, nottingham, leeds, notting hill and leicester. not forgetting bristol which has already gone
nottingham is good for their stage show...manchester ok but not all that. leicester its if you like it you like it. i didnt really like birmingham atmosphere too tense. all i remember was the large police presence machine gun and all. but it was packed with people.........i keep going leeds as i get a free lift there and back...i dont like leeds at all. big time bore. the only good thing is the procession which is fab

I didnt realise that I start to sound old and weary...do you mean that old pple...
BTW
I hate Nottinghill carnival..why?
Because there isnt nothing to learn
Its all about SKIN & **** GALORE and nothing much ...
if there were educational then it would been ok but otherwise nah..its one of those few things that White govt give to blacks here and in turn blacks feel like they are part of it..why not give money to more important black projects ?
The truth is not many will agree with me but I think we need more oney for more important projects than the carnival thing
NB:
I heard there was allegations of money mismanagement withIN nottinghill carnival bosses
Not only that but the only mainstream Black theatre company has also the same allegations
maybe its time we look somewhereelse

... don't forget ...
"Mr Jasper appears hell-bent on weakening NHC Ltd (the carnival's official body) by promising funding and then failing to deliver it. It all adds to the suspicion that Livingstone and Jasper are undermining the traditional event as part of an aggressive takeover bid."

More money for schools? How does your school system work? Are most publicly run (funding from tax dollars) based on districts/regions? Or are you talking about scholarships for black students? In terms of money and corruption and the like, I don't know about in England and other countries, but I know that Caribana has had enough problems in the past, but it contributes A LOT of money to the local economy as well as helps to create jobs....jobs = tax dollars = money for schools. May not be as significant as some might like, but it has its advantages and ends up being more than "skin galore".

MEANWHILE.....
Carnival War
A massive row has broken out between Notting Hill Carnival organisers and the London Mayor’s office after plans for a new Caribbean cultural event taking place on the same weekend as the 40-year festival were announced.
Last week Lee Jasper, senior advisor to Mayor Ken Livingstone, declared plans for the Caribbean Showcase. The family event will take place in Hyde Park on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
’It’s a long-standing recommendation into the mayor’s review of Notting Hill Carnival,’ Jasper said. ‘There needs to be a wider spread of different types of events in and around the carnival area in order to reduce crowd density.
‘Ours will be a family orientated event with some acoustic, soca, tasting of Caribbean food, steel pan nurseries and costume making camps for young children,’ he added.
But the organisation behind carnival, The London Notting Hill Carnival Ltd (LNHCL) claim the Mayor’s office had agreed to let them deliver an extended route for the festival but snubbed them.
‘We had joint agendas because the mayor’s office has some legitimate concerns about safety issues around carnival’s current footprint,’ an LNHCL spokesman explained.
‘We wanted to develop the route to reduce some of the risks that are there, but we also wanted to have a route that would stage the event in the way that it needs to be staged.
‘The use of Hyde Park would have generated a lot of interest and would have helped us to take carnival to the next level,’ the spokesman continued.
‘This was agreed with the Mayor’s office and there was a whole load of promises made by Lee about us getting the money to stage the new events, but the money [£1.2 million] never came.
‘The next thing we find out is that they’ve announced something called the Caribbean Showcase. They did it completely without telling us. To say that we’re upset is putting it mildly.’
Jasper admits there were plans for the LNHCL to co-ordinate the Hyde Park event, but says the Mayor’s office were unable to fund the organisation because of LNHCL’s ‘poor money management’.
‘It’s completely untrue that the LNHCL were not informed. They were informed every step along the way. What was said to them is that if you’re going to deliver the extended route we recognise that will require additional resource and we’re happy to receive a bid for that.
‘We got the bid and the normal routine before delivering the money is to do a check on their annual accounts. We did that and found the LNHCL were severely in debt, which prevented us making a grant to them. This was in March this year.
They’ve had two letters from the Mayor’s office in the past month making these things absolutely clear.’
However, the spokesman retorted: ‘It’s fair to say that we have got some debts that we’ve got to pay, Mr Jasper knew in January this year but he continued promise us the money. Why would he do that?’ He added: ‘They can have an event in Hyde Park, but we’re not going to participate in it.
Furthermore, I don’t think the public are going to be fooled by an event that purports to be related to carnival when it’s not.’
Carnival 2005 will operate in the same way it did last year, the spokesman said.
Jasper says the Caribbean Showcase will go ahead with or without the LNHCL’s approval: ‘The board may claim both ignorant and upset but it’s certainly not reflected in the demand for the event.
My phone hasn’t stopped ringing with people saying they would love to take part.
‘Whether they are willing to come along or not is a matter for them, but we bent over backwards to try and be supportive and it had just not been possible in the way we had originally hoped.’
