They are equally as hard to get started. People aren't starting record companies from scratch anymore, the new ones are under the umbrellas of old, long standing ones. These are being created by artists that are already in the music business and who at some point had a contract with the old record company. If you currently have no ties to the music industry it would be virtually impossible to start a record company. With the car business, what do u mean when u say u want to make ur own car line? Do u mean u want the make of the cars to be named after you? You would have to team up with a car company that is already out there and say u want to work under them. That in itself will be hard to do if u have no qualifications relating to the car industry. But even if u do, what makes u so special that a company like Mercedes or BMW will allow you to get a line of cars named after you?
I doubt very much you have thought this through properly. It's not hard to start ur own business but ur goals need to be a bit more realistic, and you'll have to do a hell of a lot of research.

You need to understand your market first and be able to identify a number of market advantages you would be able to bring to your business to make it successful.
Start by thoroughly investigating and understanding all aspects of the market of your choice. When you know you can do better than the market then you will be ready to set up your own business.
BlackMatta.
Thanks going to start studying.

| Honestly the first u need to do is 2 get urself educated. Even if u r not the class room type there are still some basics u will need to follow like spelling properly. Finally start with something simple, those that you are contemplating requires a great deal of money and the know how.

Quite an eye-opener to read some of the responses on this one?
Some of best entrepreneurs are those without academic qualification, business experience and in many cases happen to be DYSLEXIC! (Branson). Further, many of the new entrepreneurs of today are under 25 and in the majority of cases dropped out of uni to pursue their ideas...
Dont get me wrong, qualifications are all good... but will they help?
Dont knock one man's creativity, innovation and drive to be a success. Thats the difference between the ordinary man and the TRUE business man with a small idea which he takes to the right person at the right time...
I too am researching which type of business to start-up...but constantly strive to wittle down the tens of ideas ive got down on paper. My mind is all about business... always trying to "make a mikkle out of a mockle" (one of my dads sayings.. LOL)
In all fairness, it may be argued that there are significant differences between an enterpriser and an entrepreneur. Both types have their qualities and it should be noted that they are TWO DIFF TYPES OF PEOPLE! The first is rational, focused on the creation of wealth and avoids personal risk. Alternatively the entrepreneur is prepared to risk everything, go out on a whim and make decisions based on gut feeling.
Overlord: just go for it! Keep thinking and putting those ideas down on paper. Forget about age, experience, qualification etc... Although im definitely in favour of carrying out research first...that is key to any business survival...
Best of luck
Friendly Girl

mmm interesting...;
I dont kno bout the car buisness. but the music one..I could give u a lil advice..like someone said u have to be under a major umbrella b4 u can get it runnin.
I just inkd a label deal with a major.. I never thought I will ever get it. am only 19 and the fact that they believed in me really shocked me and the post they gave me is what a phd holder or an artist whos been in the game for 20 years will be dieng for.. Education isnt that necessary but u have to kno what u r doing. I left uni after my first year to jump at this opportunity. my folks were mad.. but they switched up when they saw the phat budget I gotand the post i was given (typical black folks)..
Trust me.. Anything in life can happen, dont let anyone tarnish your dreams, but booy the paper work I had to organize and all the staff members i had to hire , I had to have every single thing detailed... like 350-300 pages of paper work of mine as a presentation... I dont kno if these opportunities happns in the uk.. cuz I reached out to an american label. But bruv believe me its alotta hard work. and dedication and you have to understand what you doingand be mentaily strong, cuz u will get pressured hard.especially at the begining and you will need a team.....
Good luck tho. hope that helped. ur dreams can happen trust. but u have to investigate like someone said. cuz i never knew it took that much work.. u see all dem dr dre and eminem starting labels, its alotta work and trust they have some team behind them runnin it for the,. its reeally hard. but good luck.
safez

Good to hear you have that ambition Overlord and I wish you good luck.
I agree with what Blackmatta says, contacts and experience are the key for succeeding in my opinion.
Keep us posted on how everything is going!
