I've just noticed that there are hardly any messages in this forum, so to get u started, i'm going back to uni next week and im looking forward to all the new people/ parties etc, but the work is just sooooo damn hard.
C'mon people, anyone else that is studying holla back, and create a network for people doin simialr things. My first isssue would be why there is a lack of black people at the top universities in the UK, cos where i'm at, i feel like we are just few and far between.

I have to agree - I started at a london uni recently and i am one of 2 out of 150 black students on my course. TWO!!! Its so pathetic - I still have to check out the ACS tho - and get a proper feel for whether I am being represented.

well i agree. but im at kings at the mo, and i must say that things are improving here at least. there are quite a lot of black people, well more than i expected. but its an improvement to say the least. but i think the asians out number even the whites .

i'm studying psychology - with a little bit of spanish thrown in for good measure. i've never studied the language b4 so i'm setting myself up for plenty plenty work !
and to all u ppl out there who think psychology is a pathetic easy subject i say  !!!!!!

| Whats up people i go to one fo the crap uni's yeah u know dem ones and thers bare black people here. I regret coming here but booy its all about doing well and getting a good degree.I have already got a 2-1 so i guess i dont regret it too much. I plan 2 do a graduate coure at UCL or LSE so any one there should reply here and we can get to know more.

Hiya, I'm at Goldsmiths College studying computing. There are about 15/75 black people in my course. But all the black people try and hurd 2gether, I hate that 'hey we're black lets hurd around!' thing. There are alot of asians and whites are as few as the black people. But I go to the ACS and there a lot of the people dn't even want to mingle, so what's the point of forming a group for black people to mix 2gether, when they are not going to when put together?

 I cant help myslef I dont think!
Well thats where I have been the last week or so. Do u know I have 8 assignments to do in 3 weeks. And its not becuase I have been wasting time. I got them all in the last 2-3 weeks so its not me creating a backlog. The teachers want them all in by christmas. I'm on shedule at the moment but its gonna be hard. And also I want to get better than passes to its gonna be a very big challenge.  I dont think I want one of those right now.  Its cold outside.

Hmmm ok students what is everyone studying?
I'm studying a course in health and biology. It also has some psychology - related to the lifespan and health and socioligy. Chemistry and microbiology. Its a level 3 course and worth 3 a'levels. I'm in my second year, not long now

I took a year out after college to relax my brain for a bit after primary school. secondary school and 6th form-best thing i done. I had applied for uni along with everyone else and got on to the course i wanted to do. Im 20 and should b in my 3rd year but i am in my 2nd year.
I am studying media with film and creative writing. I love my course but all subjects are theory based and my hands hurt sooo much after how many essays.
i have sooo much work to do over the christmas-2 essays and about 5 other assignments!! It's gonna b tough but i am gonna do it. i LOVE studying-nothing better!

| forgot to add there are not many black students at my uni out of london. But during my 1st year the other black students were sooo stuck-up and giving dirty looks. they didnt even want to talk. the 1st friend i made at uni was a white girl-and we r still friends-but i find that a lot of black ppl try not to talk to their own. Why is that? u dont have to shun the others, but u also dont have to ignore ur own.

i agree with blackbeauty, I go to luton uni and find that people either in one group (black) or the other (white) and its so hard to penetrate that or mix the both. Sometimes its easier to party in ur room on your own! the guys r so ficlke and unless u dressed like u in a damn fashion show 4 lectures, u dont get a conversation! any conversatin involves the same subjects-blazing,drinking, ravin.
i must say that a lot of mature students do tend to try being friendly but it all surfaces as the same thingonce u get talking!
I am at luton as mentioned b4 in 3rd yr business administration and cant wait to finish. it felt like it flew by ova summer but now dragging away.
does anyone know there plans once they graduate? I am hoping to spend the summer in canada b4 starting the wonderful world of graduate work

Hi i'm at UCL. I think that the reason that we don't get many black people at top universities is that we aren't encouraged to apply enough. I can't really speak from a strong position as i went to private school but my cousins/friends all say they that though they got good grades they were always pushed towards lesser uni's and given impression that good ones were beyond them. Our uni sometimes organises groups of students to go to schools to encourage them to apply which is great scheme.

Good point, but I also think alot of young black kidz leaving school also feel the pressure to have to make money, to be in a job to be able to profile the bling, rather than investing their early years in education, which is a great eye opener.
I also believe some black people choose not to go through higher education due to their belief that they will face barriers when looking for high quality jobs after successfully completing Uni.
I do beieve there should be more black students in higher education but not just to make up the numbers but to have a real good go at it and aiming for high results instead of just turning up and going through the motions....

There are some black ppl in my year @ uni and i am wondering why they r even here, or if they mistook the uni for some fashion college *shakes head*
Don't get me wrong i like to look presentable but that isnt what uni is about. Then there r the ones who think they ''run'' the uni, but u can blatantly tell they were the quiet ones at school (and they feel it's their turn 2 ''shine'') No one is impressed: keep ur ass in ur books, be merry/make friends but be humble-no one loves a show off.

Hi everyone, its so relieving to find that im not the only person it this situation. I am in my final year of uni, and im the only black girl in my class. I was the only girl to get a scholarship at uni too so i feel really proud to represent black ppl in that way, especially when this country is portraying young black ppl as useless, or not as good as whites when it comes to education.
And its true that some black ppl dont want to mix with their own, i find the black girls at my uni r more b**chy than any other race, sometimes i think its just jealousy, but i try not to let it affect me, cos at the end of the day im here to get my degree and leave, and ill probably never see some of these ppl again, so i dont care.
And for anyone in my situation, keep ya head up, and dont let it bother u either. Keep your head in the books, cos u dont want to repeat a year, i know ppl that have its just a waste of time and money. Remember, when u finish uni, u can go out as much as u want and enjoy yourself even more, so study hard now, or you'll reget it later.
My lecturers even try to bring me down, when i ask for help they never do, they always find an excuse, they dont really care, as long as their getting paid. But i cant let that get to me i just gotta be strong.
Take care everyone, i hope everything works out well for all of u, im going back 2 uni nxt week, its my last term and i cant wait to finish
