Im doing a social work course were you will be marked on your practical placement and academic work, so work placements are very important.

Im stuck between a sixth and two three's, whats better....... to do a course @ a university were there is a lot more oppertunities to get a wealth of experience related to you future career, and has better links with organisations, when it comes to work placements, with the work placement side of the course being well thought out, but the academic side being pritty dry and not looking all that interesting.

or to go to a university were the academic itinerary for the course seems to be very interesting and basically spot on, however the work placement side looks to be a shambles, with very few oppertunites, and the chance of gaining experience in your chosen area is pritty low on the list.

well the two universities  i am toying with are leeds met and bradford,

leeds is a good town within itself, large lots to do, good oppertunities, large student population, award winning student union, the thing i really like about this university is it has a large link as i have said with volunteer organisations, and the thing that has really caught ,my eye and is good for my course is the union has its own charrity that is hudge, and does alot for leeds, not small like others i have seen, and you can even set up your own charity within leeds of which obviously you could base around what u want to do in ya future career giving you alot more experience and a bigger edge. And the student union will help you every bit along the way. However the academic part is a bit boring and doesnt relate to anything i really wanna do in the future but would still get me my degree is suppose.

Bradford is higher in the leage table both for the university and the course, the course content as in its academic side is really interesting, and i would love and enjoy studying it, the facilities are great, its been raved about in terms of its social work degree, and has competition for places, its alot more organised, seems very friendly, however neglects the practial experience side of things, fewer practial oppertunities, and the town is a bit quiet for stuff to do, i can see myself gettin really bored there.

My problem is if i aint interested in the course ill get bored n be un interested resulting in me not doing as well as i could, n if i h8t the wrok placement i will become frustrated n stressed, but iv worked ma but off from being 16 to do well in exams by confused3passsing fun to get qualifications and now i want to learn and hav a life, which is y i dont waan b in aboring town, i wanan hav fun

meaning this situation has left me :?

I see @ just_me

I hope I didnt come across as too brash, if so I apoligise unreservedly

Your dilemna is a tough one

However, if Leeds can get you in with the links for work, you should go there. Unless Bradford is the Cambridge of Social Studies, you will end up beter off with the work experience

I hear you when you say the academia side of Leeds might bore you. But be honest, have you enjoyed every subject you have done in your shool life. Hasnt stopped you so far?!!

This a ery tough decision and you have to make sure you make the right one, but me, I would go for Leeds

Did you ever consider a gap year just-me? That way you could had 'fun' then go back to work the following year. If it is too late now, then I'd go with cashmoney and say experience is the best thing to go for.

Despite everything negative about the college (or the area) you are not sure about, if at the end of the day, you go for a job and they ask you what have you done, then it'll all pay off.

On the other hand if you could sort of re-direct your experiences with the other college and call it 'transferable' skills to your potential new boss then you may stand a chance.

But if you was that potential employer, would'nt you rather someone who has direct experience rather than an indirect one?
