I have decided to go to university this year to study Law, I have had offers from four of my six choices and I really cannot decide between Brunel and Westminster.

I would really appreciate some current/former students experiences of either to help me make my decision.

Did you like it/not? and why?

Thanks for your help

In general, Brunel is better, but you need to assess in terms of which is best for your chosen course.

Westminster is very low in the league tables and this may detract from the credibility of your degree.
Westminster library resources are quite poor, not enough books to go round, it's not even open 24 hours.
I can't say much about the social side of things, but the spaces at residential halls are limited.

Westminster is okay, nothing special, in my opinion. I know people going to Brunel, doing Law who like it there.

Good luck with your choice!;)

@Kamikaze

offtopic.gifYou particulary stand out to me considering your a student at university. Its interesting that your reply is mostly geared around the raving scene for the University and less about the actual university itself which may be the reason why your written English is so bad.....no seriously it is very bad,  way beyond text messaging language infact one of the worst I have seen on this site for a long time.  You should try and make more use of the library facilities at Brunel, because there may be a great danger that you may not be able to recognise proper written english in time to come if you keep writting in such poor standards.

@DestinysDream

In the late 90's Brunel was often quoted as the place to go to study Law which is why my friend chose to go there to study and I never heard this about Westminster....however I don't know if this high rating is still evident today.

I am a currant Brunel student, but I am based at Twickenham campus, so i can't really help you out.  What i can say is that my course (PGCE) has been really disorganised because it is moving to the Uxbridge campus in September.  If you think living/working on a building site is bad, try attending a course on a campus that is effectively shutting down!!  They have even started work on building the 'luxery flats' already!  talk about can't wait for us to leave!!

But Brunel has always had a good rep, particularly for Law and teaching, so if nothing else, it will look good on your CV lol  Congrats on getting an offer ( i was so happy i cried when i got mine!) and good luck where ever you decide to go.

Hey DestinysDream, I am currently are Brunel and doing Law incidentally. I really enjoy life at Brunel, I am following the four-year thin-sandwich program, so I have two six month periods of work experience, which is great and valued in the profession.

Given your two choice, I would say Brunel is better for Law, both in teaching and research. I should say that I have found Law very laid back here in comparison to other London uni's so you gotta make sure you remain focussed. Enjoy your first year anyway because it doesn't count to your degree, though you need a 40% pass rate.

Good luck in your choices

Bless, CC

Actually, Madfet, I am on track to gain a first in my degree. I do not spend much time in the library due to the fact that I find it difficult to concentrate around lots of people. Obviously I do not write as I have in essays otherwise I would not be gaining 90% plus in exams and coursework. As this is an informal site, I was using informal 'text' speech. I also use alot of slang when Im communicating informally with others, this does not mean that I cannot use proper english when i choose too. Anyway, a huge part of the university experience is the soical life, learning to live on your own, reading books and learning in an academic sense has always come easily to my self so I felt I should offer destinysdream a chance to see what I have learnt over the past few years.

@Destinysdream good luck whatever you choose, I also beleive that Brunel moved up the Guardian league tables this year (again).

hey,

i have heard that both westminster and brunel, within the university leagues are not that very good universities, i have only heard this from londoners at my uni so don't charge at me.:shock: Like i said before i never heard of either two until i went to ACFEST.

I have to agree with madfet, i think she said it anyways:D, when making uni choices u need to think out of the box just a little and think of yr life choices,  just because the ravin scene in one uni is tight dosent mean that the uni is, and u think employers aint gonna know that???

the raves will still be there before u go uni, when ur at uni and after ur at uni, believe. Try and go to a uni that has a little more status, then the other, however someone who went to a lees status uni may do better in life u never know, life is completly random, but at the same time the status of a uni very sad but true, gives you a better chance in the employment game. not always but u have something to set u aside from the rest, u know what i mean?

miss p

Now you see how much better that is when you take time to write a better standard of English.  Btw this is an informal site as you so put it but your prior display of language was not informal it was destructive afterall we are not talking about spelling mistakes and punctuations etc but blatant abuse and destruction of English, and you made a poor assumption to expect all other members to find this eligible reading.  For example in a informal setting in a place of employment you would not perform this style of writting.  Not only to you but I  have said it to many others before who have displayed such trash, whether you refuse to believe it or not when you continue or frequently choose to write in this way your brain will eventually view it as the norm and will sooner or later view the correct way as alien......I kid you not.  This is not text messaging where you are limited to the number or characters you can use, this is internet where you have a keyboard....come on now intelligent people lets not make excuses.

But this is not a bash at you personally I am just used to seeing this type of writing in the under 18 forum on this site which I rarely visit because of.  I am aware that there are alot of brain dead tossers in society and hate to think that some are present on this site.  Btw I am glad to hear your on your way to a first degree and wish you well....rant over I'm out of here.

@DestinyDream

Sorry to have taken your topic off course, anyway I think Brunel is your best choice for your Law degree out of the two.

Good choice!

As a law student @ Brunel, I would say enjoy your first year, but also make sure you keep up with the work. You will be having both coursework and exams in the first year.

Good luck

Bless, CC
