Sometimes I need saving from my insecurities.
So, my wants and needs become disguised by lines of non-committal speech.
I give just enough to keep 'em happy, yet stay just that little bit out of reach,
Cos I don't do "relationships". That just ain't me.
I would rather be alone sometimes and let the Peace surround me.
But, most times, I face the window that looks out from my seclusion
And hope that someone looks in and offers hands to me.
I run after she and she and she, cos they never run from me
It's not that I can't decide which ONE to walk beside,
I just need...what's the word?...VARIETY!
And how can I feel left behind by someone I never really cared for?
This is why I keep my distance. Keep up the heart's resistance to love and therefore...
No more is asked of me than what I came to give
And yet, that which I try deny to others is what I need to live.
At times I long to feel and touch and hold the homely warmth of a gentle soul.
And when those I run to have run have run away,
Where will I find a place to lay?...Chu!
Don't matter to me, cos the fish in the sea are aplenty
And I'm too damn busy to be tied down, locked-down, held down...
Loved down...washed down...deeply involved now...Damn!
My crown not shared and no heir to bare it when I gone.
This is NOT what I envisioned. This is not what I REALLY want.
But I'm compelled to front and play silly stunts,
Accept no demands and be non-demanding,
Cos "I'm A Free Agent", I tell myself.
But why do I feel trapped by my commitment to fruitless "understandings"?...
I need to change.
