Everyone has their own meaning to poetry/spoken word. What does it mean to you? I listen to poetry to heal my pain. I have a lot to say, but I don't know where to begin. So, my healing process is poetry. It brings me to a certain awareness. Anytime I'm feeling down I pop in a poetry album and I feel better. A new album I need to look into is "American River" by Johnathan Elias. I hear it's great.  clp)

Spoken word to me means expressing your REAL thoughts and feelings. One thing that I remembered one of the poets saying was that poetry really doesn't have meaning until it is spoken. I feel that's so true. I guess that's why I came down extra hard on myself when I didn't perform my poem to perfection, because I have truly studied hard and in my opinion, when I was watching the poetry slam going on, I was like my sh*t could knock the majority of them out the box. As far as my delivery is concerned that is something I need to work on so I'm not even going to attempt to try to get involved with slamming. I'll continue reading my sh*t in the open room.
