My heart crys as I watch the News
Chest soaked with leaking blood-tears
for a baby orphaned and in eternal distress
It has been two weeks since the last meal
belly bloated with rib cage pressing on
dry weak skin like a palentological artifice
Restrained and forced to open it's mouth-
with fingers pressed either side of it's cheeks-
a tea-spoon of milk is passed through it's purple stained lips
There is pain struggling to swallow
a process which in my head should be pain-free
however those foreign eyes tell a different decree
The darting stare is of a spirit that is scared on the inside
The only crime committed of your innocence was to be born in 'Niger'
It seems child-birth into a 'good life' is a geographical lottery
Yearning to hold you with tenderness
I unconsciously touch the screen
only to find I am now you and you are now me
I am scared to be you now
The pain is cutting me
I am hungry, I can't sleep, I want to eat, weak, I want this pain to stop
Half of me walks in fear, pain, anxiety and uncertainty
The other half of me is content to know
I took in your grey skies so yours could be blue
So now,
I'm counting on you
to help me to a future
that's as bright as
the rainbow that
beckons your world
to unraveling possibilities
