In Aesop's following short story, the scorpion reminds me of White people...what is your opinion?
The Scorpion and the Frog
One day, a scorpion looked around at the mountain where he lived and decided that he wanted a change. So he set out on a journey through the forests and hills. He climbed over rocks and under vines and kept going until he reached a river.
The river was wide and swift, and the scorpion stopped to reconsider the situation. He couldn't see any way across. So he ran upriver and then checked downriver, all the while thinking that he might have to turn back.
Suddenly, he saw a frog sitting in the rushes by the bank of the stream on the other side of the river. He decided to ask the frog for help getting across the stream.
"Hellooo Mr. Frog!" called the scorpion across the water, "Would you be so kind as to give me a ride on your back across the river?"
"Well now, Mr. Scorpion! How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" asked the frog hesitantly.
"Because," the scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"
Now this seemed to make sense to the frog. But he asked. "What about when I get close to the bank? You could still try to kill me and get back to the shore!"
"This is true," agreed the scorpion, "But then I wouldn't be able to get to the other side of the river!"
"Alright then...how do I know you wont just wait till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog.
"Ahh...," crooned the scorpion, "Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help, that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!"
So the frog agreed to take the scorpion across the river. He swam over to the bank and settled himself near the mud to pick up his passenger. The scorpion crawled onto the frog's back, his sharp claws prickling into the frog's soft hide, and the frog slid into the river. The muddy water swirled around them, but the frog stayed near the surface so the scorpion would not drown. He kicked strongly through the first half of the stream, his flippers paddling wildly against the current.
Halfway across the river, the frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his stinger from the frog's back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs.
"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that?"
The scorpion shrugged, and did a little jig on the drownings frog's back.
"I could not help myself. It is my nature."
Then they both sank into the muddy waters of the swiftly flowing river.

Yes, their very nature is destructive; therefore, we should know better in dealing with them. We dealt with them in kindness and they enslaved us and took our entire continent. We dealt with them in kindness along with the Native Americans in the Americas, and they killed most of the Native Americans and enslaved the Blacks that were originally there.
It is their nature to be destructive, so we should not be the frog in this Aesop tale.

| I've always liked this fable but I think white people are a bit more diabolical than the scorpion. The scorpion has nothing on them as it destroyed itself because it couldn't control it's nature. So far in their dealings with us and other non-whites, white people have only done things that they know will be beneficial to them and detrimental to others. They wait until they are safely standing on the other side of the river before killing the frog.

Uh huh, you can't only blame white people for ruining the environment. Yes they are the chief polluters but non-whites are not free from blame either. How much energy does Japan waste per year? For such a tiny island, they have done more than their share of ruining the environment. And what about African governments who allow whites and now China to deplet their nonrenewable resources so that they and their family can live the good life? Are they not accountable for these actions? Just the other day, I read about how the Pygmies of Congo have said that they are willing to tear down those prescious trees in their thick forests for, get this, soap and clothes. What the hell did the Pygmies do for soap before white people came along? And what is wrong with continuing to use these old methods and keep their forest in-tact? When forest conservationists blasted those farmers in the Amazon who were cutting down trees left, right and center to grow useless crops, guess what those farmers told them: "You Westerners have gotten rich from destroying your environment and now you want to be hypocrites and deny us the right to make money of, of ours?"
Now, I'm not saying that white people do not shoulder most of the blame for what is happening to the environment, but when we gladly join them in ruining what's left of nature so we can have Western things and live like them, then we are the frog who helps the scorpion to kill him. We can't just blame them for everything, we have to look at ourselves.

Very good point there.
How many of us are willing to give up western things and being against nature to being in harmony with it.
Black people have done a lot for the west and we dont get the respect we deserve. A lot of us can't even respect ourselves- we take the scorpions stinger and sting ourselves with it, and nowadays our scorpion doesnt have to do much to kill a frog. We have taken the wests guns and shot a lot of our own people down with it, and a rise on black on white gun crime doesnt and will never exist. Its a shame at the moment we are our worst enemies.

Salaam.
Aesop's fable is a bit unbelievable since it is not in the nature of living things to destroy themselves on a whim. What reminds me more of the exploitative relationship between Europe and Africa is the Ichneumon Wasp - also known as the Scorpion Wasp.
I'll start another thread on it.
