Why are you lightening?
Your nice skin
Why are sisters so concerned with their appearance?
Do they think they’re so dark that the darkness wont come near them
Why are they lightening more than their teeth
Is it for TV or for curing disease
Sister are you whitening down for the black men
Or do you just want more high-class white friends
Must you defile your temple for show now
For all your chemicals, like a perm the light hype may grow out
For you are a beacon of hope for the future
But your unnatural hue does nothing for you
So bathe in the beauty of your hazelnut splendour
They say the juice is sweeter the darker the berry

Nothing wrong with your Nubian queens brothers
Rejecting your own is like a blasphemy of culture
That’s why nuff sisters are in uproar
Unno pick up dem gyal like yu name a summer breeze
Unno to fool yu might get lef with a STD
Or maintenance payments for a baby
Or even deported back a yard
I wouldn’t want a failed marriage and a visa on my score card
Oh lord oh lord how can we stop this
Probably by making real black women available in higher quantities
Afro or shaven craniums make the billboard
That image is so played out even the Ku Klux Klan want it outlawed
We have a lot to be thankful for from talents to the strength within
So while you abide in the image of God there is no reason
To lighten your skin
Bright skin
Light skin
