to collect an old debt

this was katrinas message,
oya,godess of the winds
gatekeeper of the cemeteries,
who reminds us that death exists
travelled along the trans atlantic
slave trade,
where afrikans were thrown
to the the sharks
in to the ocean floors

landed in the plantations
and the sugar mills
among ruins and debrees

were servants to rich french farmers

katrina came during the labour week
to remind us about the suffering
of those tormented afrikan souls
roaming the areas of louisiana
