Nikki Giovanni
CHOICES
if i can't do
what i want to do
then my job is to not
do what i don't want
to do
it's not the same thing
but it's the best i can
do
if i can't have
what i want . . . then
my job is to want
what i've got
and be satisfied
that at least there
is something more to want
since i can't go
where i need
to go . . . then i must . . . go
where the signs point
through always understanding
parallel movement
isn't lateral
when i can't express
what i really feel
i practice feeling
what i can express
and none of it is equal
i know
but that's why mankind
alone among the animals
learns to cry

| I'm not into poetry that much but I always loved a poem called "Ego trippin" by nikki giovonni. Every since I heard that poem, i try to live by it.

My all time favorite poem!! I can't get enough of it!
Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou
Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say, It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.
Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

shortMAN is one of my favorites, 'A Man who draws sound' is dope and his whole album 'One Of Many' is good.
I like the Best Kept Secret, Lewis Parker (even though he is hip-hop, he's a poet to me), Dilated Peoples (Particularly Rakaa Iriscience), Floetic Lara is full of energy, and David J is amazing.
So many great artists, but this is who is in my head at the moment.
HOTEP!!!

hi! im a new member...im feeling a poet right now mustafa abdul aleem he's an educator and drummer also.....heres a poem i wrote a few weeks ago..comments welcome..
His eyes wish me 2 another place..a space in time. circumventing disks deep chocolate.. He melts me into a flowing energy that knows no bounds-no limits.
i reach the sky -
flying....I bathe in the warmth of the sun.
His deep whispers gently blow me further in2 his world.Im comforted in the clouds that surround me and guided by the stars,
Im one with the planet , the earth, the universe
no fear in my heart.
His tears hydrate me..drip drops of fragmented light beam across my bare flesh.Undulating hues of rainbow colour wake my soul,
Im consumed by the curio of love...
