Is Black real?

Black is real to me.

Black refers to skin colour of my fore-parents going back in to antiquity. They were often referred to and referred to themselves as Black.

Black is real to me.

Black reminds me of the Atlantic slave trade and the suffering of Black people during that time. Black was the colour of the resistance fighters who stood up to the force of European military might and won. This informs us today that we were and still are victors in Battles with our enemies.

Black is real to me.

Black is beautiful, Black Power were themes within our movement a generation or so ago. So many beautiful brothers and sisters gave up so much in order for Black to mean something. Something of value. Something human after being treated so inhumanely.

Black is real to me.

Black is the reality of living in a system where people who are Black, are denied fair access to employment, effective education, freedom of movement and respect for the contribution Black people have given to ancient and modern civilisation. Black is the frontline between those who see the reality and make a stand and those who can or can't afford to ignore the truth.

Black is real to me.

Black has progressed to African for many. Our connection to times before slavery and the International movement that connects people of African descent has helped prompt this. The admission that Africa was systematically driven out of Black memory as the land Black people were forcibly taken from and then made into fuel for the expansion of White power, promoted many Blacks to Africans, without apology. But even these Africans admit that Black is a reality.

They have to.

The fight is not yet over.

Far from it.

Black is the Black in Blacknet.

Sure looks real to me.

Black Power!!

Peace:cool:

This poem touched me in so many ways. This may be on or off the topic, but black people have been through so much since the beginning of time, up until now. I need to ask this, what is going on with our black men?

They are America's most wanted. Our black men are wanted by us black women. They are really wanted by the white women fo sho. And our black men are definitely wanted by the white man, with all of these Laws and Disorders, along with all of this Systematic Bullsh*t.mad-moonie

Oh, I must say that some of our black women here in America are getting caught up right along with our black men. And don't let me speak about C.P.S. (Child Protective Services). They are out here taking our babies, and putting them up for adoption. Damn why us?

Anyway, maybe I should've took this to the chat room.

Peace Out Without A Doubt:

Michele a.k.a. *Lil' Boo*--USA

I loved this. It's proud without being strident; expressive without shouting. It "flows" without being "hip hop". An excellent piece of writing and I agree with the content 100%. The two passages quoted above are my favorites.  Thank you...
