Does anybody know about Five Percenters? So many rappers claim to be followers ie Brand Nubian, Wu-tand Clan, Rakim etc

What do people think about this concept of the 'Aziatic Black man is god' and the 'Black women are Earths'?

Is it good to view ourselves in this way or is having a god complex a bad idea for Africans?

The Asiatic bit always pissed me off.  They're an offshoot from the NOI...

Listen to Papa Wu at the beginning of wuforever or at the end of ghosts' all i got is you.  That more or less sums up their beliefs.  They have no organised creed to speak of beyond that they themselves are Gods so in saying... it's not a religion.

They don't even refer to themselves as Africans. I touched on the 'Asiatic' bit a while back here cos they say Africa was originally called Asia (lol).

The thing is a lot of what they chat is pure nonsense because they just play around with semantics all the time and most of them don't even live the 'righteous' life they purport. Nuff of them I met smoke more weed than any dread and drink yet they wanna tell you not to eat pork!!

Some five percenters definitly play on your words but ofcourse that depends on the individual, some can take things on face value for the sake of the conversation.  Just like any other group, there perceptions vary but they have their core information that is basically scientific facts and NOI question and answers.  They also have different kinds of people in the nation of gods and earths so they are lots of them that don't live by what they teach and do negative things but thats really no different then any other religion.

I was reading into it last night as it happens. I like them personally, definatly a good thing they put symbolism into hip hop to reach the youth encouraging them to ask questions where other preachers would have them sitting crossed legged head bowed for European teachers and pictures of Jesus.

The 85% are the ignorant masses, the non belivers.

The 10% are the leeches that keep those in ignorance ignorant, including europeans, rappers etc etc.

The 5% are those who don't beliiiive in the teachings of the 10% percent and seek to teach the truth and to encourage the youth in a posotive way having unlocked the truth and found their true path.

They've been around for ages and made a MEGA mark on the music scene, sparking new slang words etc... I posted about US slang in the other room before I found out that its the 5%ers that've been putting it out.

They belive that the Black man is Allah and that the women should submit to ALLAH as each individual is their own universe.

I personally applaud them completely and utterly. I was raised on those Wu-Tang beats and their stuff kept my mind going through an all white schooling system. I put up Wu signs EVERYWHERE, trust me... EVERYWHERE. It wasn't Southgate school it was a Wu - School by the time I left.

They ARE the hip hop scene. Full stop.

One of the side effects of this God complex is that many 5%ers justify selling crack and murdering Black people in their OWN community because they are Gods and can do whatever they please.

Personally I see it as a cult that prays on a people hungry to belong to something.

When a person stands for nothing, they fall for anything.

If they sell crack then they're the 85% or the 10% the ignorant leaders who abuse their position of authority to make money. The 5% are the ''Gods'' who try and teach  the youths rather than poision them. Wu-Tang mix it up in ignorant 'ish to reach out and get the message across. Others just drop gems in lyrics and make good music. Like Pete Rock, Guru etc...

''The alpha omega... The Arm Leg Leg a' Arm Head'' = The Alpha Omega.. the A.L.L.A.H

Also TuPacs THUG LIFE = The - Hate - You - Gave - Little - Infants - F**ks - Everyone = T.H.U.G L.I.F.E. When asked what it means, Tupac; ''Thats just some 'ish you can't f**k wit''

Mos Def cusses them in one of his tunes but the 5% Nation are massive, can't cuss people that are out to do good. Its like slating rap music and then slating the good rappers when they try and reach out... WTF do people want exactly?

Its common for Muslems to form their own version of the quran to suit themselves its why the religion spreads so fast. This is just another version... not that I belive in what they teach but as said, it was that fire in the Wu albums that kept me listening as a kid so I don't cuss them, also Nas tunes as well.

Also note the album covers of some rappers... Busta and 36 Chambers. They put stuff in the art work. 36 Chambers is the WU group breaking a circle if you check it out, breaking the spell kinda thing. Others like Anarchy are obvious. Some were even talking about the WTC before it happened like in Jerus video, ''Mind spray'' and others.

The NWBNs also have artists like Bambatta and others that drop consiouss 'ish in their albums.

Not that I belive in their God theory and stuff but people should check things out before cussing... why would they call themselves that?...  Maybe they're drawing from Jewish mysticism (= Egyptian mysticism) and putting it up in their tunes?

*Cue erie music*

Im Hotep,

The info on this thread is very interesting.  Thanks to all who posted.

I tried listening to some Brand Nubian, etc and what I hear is N****rN****rN****rN****r bust a cap in a N****r N****r N****r N****r I'M GOD N****r N****r STAY STRAPPED SHOOT A N****r.  Same for most of these 5 percenter rappers.  It doesn't help us if we have the blind leading the blind.

In terms of positive rap, listen to Black Market Militia.  Hell Razah and 4th Disciple break it down on that CD.

Where can I find their stuff?

Can't really say too much for some of the artists but those ones sound like the 10% or the 85 as mentioned. Its the same with Nas, he still goes on about gangster this and gangster that but they're speaking about a lifestyle that some are forced to live... theres more to it than them waving guns and stuff and they put their teachings into their lyrics and other tunes to reach out. Crime is a result of poverty, people gotta remember that and take the blame off of the people who can't see any other way of getting out of their situation than to rob and steal. Some are trapped in that lifestyle.

Not that I'm sticking up for it, its just the way it is sometimes.

In Egyptian teachings you have to be able to relate to communicate and so be able to teach the people. No point in being all nice and fluffy when the people aren't in a nice and fluffy surrounding. Rather than lend an ear to the negative stuff listen out for the teachings they put in their lyrics or the good tunes they put in their albums next to the negative stuff.

I agree with you to a certain degree because I've seen many of them do negative things.  I once seen a man that was God body get caught in the act of cheating and when his girl confronted him he said "you my earth but there will always be other planets."  I died laughing after that one.

One of the five percenters in Black Market Militia even had the gall to say that he is "supporting the struggle with his hustle".  Selling dope for liberation? Sounds like the Taliban.  Ig + no + rant.

Yeah but come on man, they are just the people picking up on it and using it to their fasion. The nation wouldn't exactly accept them, they're just the 85 or 10% and are still ignorant.

The whole idea is based on achiving Buddahood, achiving enlightenment through self discovery thats what its based on. They did their research and found out about the African featured buddah

(Thanks S.T I've been looking for this for a while)

And took off from there.

As the Buddahists belive that God is within every man and through practice and alignment man can connect with his 'god' as is within himself.... its all buddahism mixed with Egyptian mixed with muslem teachings cooked in an oven with some hot beats to wake people up spiritually. Problem is that some are taking it at face value, not reading into it... thinking they can jump the sephiroths from the lower straight to the upper rather than attempt to achive each value through meditation and practice. lol. The tree of life, CENTRAL to Jewish mythology is found in Egypt and in African folklore... the 5%N have clocked that, probably researched other civilizations (Aztec, Indian, Christian etc) and run with it.

I have not read too much about them, btu to my knowledge they were founded by Charles 13x a former memeber of the Nation of Islam who disagreed with Elijah Muhammed, over the way they looked up to Fard Muhammed who is believed to be a European or Asian.

In the very least, they do foster a deeper level of thought, hopefully to lead to understanding and that is important.  I take religions and the offshoots of it as a rabbit hole, after going deeper and deeper, there is a threshold that religion is unable to go and that is spiritual realm.   Knowledge of information is important as well, but its about connecting knowledge and spirituality together to sort out the rest of the details that seems to be amiss.

PSALMS 82:6  I said, You are gods; all of you are the sons of the Most High:

JOHN 10:34  Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods?

LUKE 17:21  Neither shall they say, See here! or, see there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

I am not a christian but in the bible there are indications that we are gods. I dont believe that just because someone doesnt act righteous means that they cant be gods, i dont think it makes a difference, afterall a God is supposed to know good and evil.

GENESIS 3:5 For God sees that on the day when you take of its fruit, your eyes will be open, and you will be as gods, having knowledge of good and evil.

GENESIS 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

My personal belief is that we all make up the One God out of many, that we are within God and God within us. God is all things including you.

This also applies below:

I CORINTHIANS 12:12 For as the body is one, and has a number of parts, and all the parts make one body, so is Christ.
