2, We know one can lack consciousness but can one have too much consciousness?

To me, consciousness is being aware of one's self; one's own surroundings; other's humanity; their surroundings and the affect each has on his/her/itself. Consciousness is simply a deeper level of thought. It's the analysis of yourself and your situation; the comprehension of whom you are and why you find yourself in your own particular situation. It's the analysis of others and their situation; the comprehension of whom they are and why they find themselves in their particular situation. It's the analysis of the situation in itself. Simply put, it's the seeking of an understanding of life. Whether one can attain a true understanding is neither here nor there; consciousness is the quest in itself, nothing more, nothing less.

Can one have too much consciousness? In my opinion, no. Even so-called geniuses are not capable of knowing all. So, since we always need growth as thinkers to further society on a number of fronts, in my opinion: consciousness is vital for our ascent as a society; as a people. Can one be too consumed with his or her own consciousness and, in a sense, overthink their life rather than truly experiencing life? Possibly, and this is what many fall prey to: thought without action reduces one to a thinker; a mere dreamer. At the very least, share your thoughts with others if you believe your thoughts can enlighten, help others in some way or if you believe your thoughts are interesting. Do that, and you've stepped out of the mold of being 'another thinker.' Anyone with brain activity can think, it's not impressive in the least. Trusting your thoughts enough to share them with others is what separates the proverbial men from the boys. For that reason, I don't believe one can be too conscious.

Your attention. What do you concentrate with?

Trying to remember something for example is focusing your attention on the contents of your mind. Some people call it thinking, since most people waste their time thinking about past events.

Listening to someone carefully is focusing your attention on the present.

80% of the people in the world can't do the above separately.

It's why people have to repeat themselvs alot thesedays, because the other person wasn't paying attention.

2, We know one can lack consciousness but can one have too much consciousness?

No one lacks consciousness, people's attention just isn't as focused on a certain thing as much as it is on another.

Your last question would have no as an answer..

If you mean consciousness as in knowledge then yes is the answer.

Most people's knowledge is incorrect.

Knowledge is just what is stored in your subconscious.

A quote I personally feel sums up consciousness is "what you are not aware of, is what you are conscious of"

Very basic example: *If you are not aware or pay attention to the fact that aeroplanes fly in the sky, then aeroplanes do not exist, your conscious level is here, once you are aware of aeroplanes your concious level has been raised,  you are now aware of aeroplanes then you might also gradually notice its surroundings like airports, mid-air refueling, daredevil flying or anything else connected with flying.

If you are not aware of the space shuttle then.......and so on.

I remember in another thread another member remarked to me: "higher consciousness like you? what a joke!" -EA

I didn't even bother replying because some people have the notion that consciouness is something "out there"  when in actual fact it's about yourself and surroundings.

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful...the Best Knower.

Salaam (Peace) to all.

The word conscious-ness comes from two Latin roots, Con or Com(with, together with) and scire(to know).  So then the literal definition, or root meaning, of "consciousness" would be "the state of knowing or being aware".

Despite all appearances, we are all individual manifestations of ONE All-Encompassing INTELLIGENT Reality...which is called by many Names by many people.  This ONE REALITY, or "DIVINE INTELLIGENCE", when it passes through a "material" conductor, experiences "Consciousness"; much like a copper wire develops an electro-magnetic field around it when Electricity passes through it.

One of the reasons that most of us do not see this is because we have been conditioned to perceive reality based on the physical senses, instead of perceiving reality from the True Self, the "I"...or, the Third "Eye".

The more ignorant we are, the more we cling to the illusion of individuality, and so never really experience true Consciousness.

The less ignorant we are, the less we cling to such illusion, knowing that "whatever I can observe, I am not that...therefore I cannot be my flesh nor even my thoughts, for I can observe them."  If this is true for "me", then it is true for every other human being on this planet.  And since we all share the common impulse to SURVIVE, then we must also share a common Essence...the "I"...the True Self...the One True Reality.

We are that "I AM".

The Quest for Self-Realization (Consciousness) is a most worthy one.

RM

Consciousness is not having to wait until your back is against the wall before you know who you are!
