| I don't believe there is a purpose to life. Life is random, and in random things there hardly ever exists a point. Life just "is", and to live is merely to be alive. It's like a seed, once it's been planted (beginning with the first life) it takes root and spreads. When we (the human race) are gone, something else will just be planted in our ashes. But, if I had to pick, I would say the purpose of life is death. You have to be able to achieve a purpose and when you do, there should be no more reason to continue striving. like someone said, once you achieve the purpose of life, then what's the point of living anymore? we all eventually acheive death which is the ultimate conclusion to life.

I believe we are here to grow..to evolve.. to be better or higher than we are. I believe we get as many chances as we as a collectiveness or consciousness need to ascend higher.. I believe human beings have a need to give 'purpose or meaning' everything...becos nothing actually has a purpose until we give it a purpose.. ie fork, knife, clothes etc.
I also believe in synchronicity .. ie we have clues but we must heed them. The book 'The Celestine Prophecy' gives detailed insight into this. I think people come into our lives baring gifts.. whether we judge them good or bad.. but ultimately they all have power to change your thinking. If we tried to live more 'consciously', be the 'effect' rather than 'cause' then we'd have less strife.
To me..everything equals - onwards and upwards and never any less than that. I also know its a matter of 'interpretation or our vantage point' at the time..

Human life has no intrinsic purpose or meaning … it just is. What’s the purpose of a flea ?
However, we can give our lives meaning so that it can resonate on the deepest levels of what it truly means to be alive. This is the goal of all art, religion and philosophy.

To me physically we exist as part of the evolution not just of the human race but also of the planet, as these are the environments we live in.
Everything we put into our bodies whether it be the food we eat or the air we breathe has a purpose. From the smallest to the largest mechanism that makes each physical structure there is a purpose and a meaning. If there was no purpose we would not exist and we would not have the ability to use our minds to overstand what that purpose is.
What we put into ourselves mentally is also a purpose to pay more attention to. We have far too much negative images, lifestyles and information around us - especially on the news and being fed that day in day out will inevitably have an affect only on how we interract with other people and how we look after our selves.
When we then seek a purpose for ourselves we come back to the spiritual purpose which is you dealing with you. Deep but at some point or another will be necessary for those who really want to look at what this spiritual stuff is about.
Some do not have need right now to seek a purpose and some may never need to seek a purpose but many would like answers to so many of our why's that we will find out by seeking our own purpose physically, mentally and spiritually which will then lead onto a better overstanding of how important our existence is to work closer with mother nature while we are here.
This is the way we have always been as a people. Our search never seems to end and I'm so glad it hasn't!

I guess that the questions that have been posed in this discussion is dependent of subjective interpretation. In this light I can only purport my own personal view.
I think that as "humans" we are conscious, sentient beings that are aware of our own existence as opposed to trees and dogs etc. We are born into the word very little if any at all in the way of guidelines to follow that would carve out our future. This is a good thing because it would rob us of our right of choice. But seeing that we do have freedom of choice and will always have CHOICE (no matter how awful the options may turn out to be) this is how we shape ourselves through life. By choosing one way over another we are saying we are this instead of the other.....we in fact the sum of our choices. We therefore create oursleves as "human characters" through our actions in life. As a result we are also entirely responsible for ourselves and the actions we do. In fact to refute our responsibility is just self-deception.
So the purpose in life is really quite simple in theory (to me anyway). The purpose in life to me is to live an AUTHENTIC life. This means living a True life that chooses not to define oneself through the roles we play through social institutions that are forced upon us. It means rejecting conformity and embracing our inherent freedom. Its all bout being true to yourself and looking within yourself. Do not be dictated to. Do not subject yourself to superficiality. Do not act in a way that isnt true to how you feel just to please others.
