Watching your parents get old. Its well sad.
Was gonna title this ''A childs forgotten pain''. Don't think anyone really pays any attention to the effect that a parents aging has on their children. Maybe I'm too aware of things I shouldn't pay so much attention to but suddenly having to read for my parents and correct slight mistakes makes me wanna move out asap. Not that I'm a child but no one is supposed to be witness to the aging process like that.

I agree with you. I feel the same way, whenever I see my folks and can visibly see that they are getting on, and as you mentioned witnessing their mistakes. All we can do is now look after them the best way we know how.

What also really freaks me out are those old folk homes....
What if you don't have any children to look after you and you end up in one of those places...waiting to die. Seeing the same other people every day with their wrinkled up faces who will die one after the other untill it's your turn ...

mak..... I know what you mean.
hey, they may be feeling the same way about you bieng young
but aging is a process we cannot control
its happening to all of us every nanosecond
I hope you can be patient with thier shortcomings now they are becoming evident as they are now older. They were definately there (and still are) for you in your shortcomings
^^^^^^^^^^
trust me, the above is difficult to achieve at times but it can be done!!
peace

Hmmmm. Being a parent must be a tough job, have been working on that whole being there thing.
Its not like they're aging so fast its visible, just noticing that they're getting on and things are changing, probably dosen't help that I have a good long term memory.

This topic is very timely for me. Im currently witnessing this with my mother.
She could carry 6 full bags of fruits through the market like they weighed 1lb, now she can only manage one and it has to have one light item like toiletpaper.
Once my dad forbid her from going out and she climbed out of the 2nd storey window in heels and a tight dress to prove a point, now she can barely shuffle with the aid of a stick.
It just happened so fast, I didn't notice her getting this bad and even dismissed her when she complained about pains in her legs and hands.
We really locked horns when i was teen but for the past 10 years i've found I can do everything with my mum, holidays, clubs, cinema, dinner.
Now im trying to imagine life without her and i really can't.

Have been telling them that the idea is to make money here in England and move to somewhere like the Carib where its warm, life treats people better out there. Yoga is good as well, it keeps the blood circulating and helps with the joints and what not.

My Nan was in one for a few years before she died, as she was bed-ridden and my Grandad was too ill to care for her at home (so he said, anyway).
Soul destroying - the smell of wee, the feeling that they're waiting to die. I hated going there to see her - partly because she was suffering from dementia, and partly because I knew she didn't have long left. I used to leave her and cry, remembering my Nan who used to beat me with her bare hands, reduced to this.
I couldn't put my parents in one, and would hate my kids to do so with me.
Luckily enough, both my parents seem to be as strong as oxes. Spoke to Dad in Grenada last week, and he told me he was doing Mum's gardening as she can't handle the Grenadian weeds......she's 61, he's 70!
