@ Efenjee,

Tell me about it! I honestly don't think it's worth me returning to work. Hubby even said I could be a childminder. Me? Nah! Don't have the patience.

As a matter of fact I think I'm going to get my degree. I always wanted to do Criminology, and I've just found out that I can do it by home study.

And no, you don't need a degree to be an accountant!!

Info for those expecting:

Women who may become pregnant, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children should avoid some types of fish and eat fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury. Fish that are high in mercury are: Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish.

Lady Day,

It's only because it's your first! Trust me, with subsequent babies you'll hardly see a doctor/midwife!

I  had/have:

12 weeks (scan and doctor)

20 weeks (anomoly scan)

28 weeks (midwife, to get MATB1)

36 weeks (doctor)

39 weeks (to see what's happening!!)

And I'm rhesus negative and an older Mum!!!!

I have been pregnant three times and I have three children. I didnt have morning sickness or anythin either. The only thing I had was heart burn so I drank tons of milk, and backpain! The back pain was pretty bad. Giving birth wasnt fun either. I live in Germany and my kids were born here also. The second birth was bad because I was alone, my husband got sent off the day before and none of the docs spoke English. It wwas pretty scary there for awhile. but my last two girls cam pretty quick. Within 3 hours of getting to the Hospital. My son who was my first and biggest child actually caused me the most pain. I gained a lot of wait while I was pregnant but I lose atleast half after I have a baby, lol. Then I gotta work at losing the rest. :)

Mafdet,

You're quick off the mark ain't ya?? Lol. Only kidding!

Actually, I used that avatar a few months ago, before I fell pregnant. It just seems fitting now, seeing as Lady Day has got the best one.....

@both the ladies

you know it has been said that some women know they are going to get pregnant before they actually becomes pregnant several months before, so using your avatar beforehand you could've subconsciously tuned into this. Hmmmmmm;)

Lady Day,

You have enough vests. One word of advice. I don't know how tall you and your Hubby are, but if you are tall try not to buy newborn (0-3 months) with attached feet. My son had the BIGGEST feet I've ever seen on a baby (his Dad bought him some Arsenal shoes - he never wore them as his feet were too big!). I'd buy another 3 sleepsuits...5 isn't enough, and buy newborn.

Are you breast feeding? If so, don't go too mad on the bibs. Baby will throw up on your shoulder.....

I have the new Next catalogue, so I'll be hitting their sales in December (with my big belly too!). Isn't your baby due in October (sorry, can't remember)? If so, buy what I advised, and wait for the sales for the rest. Buy a hat and coat to go home in, but don't buy something too expensive for the baby to leave hospital in - baby'll only throw up all over it!

Now, for you. Don't go too mad because they'll kick you out as soon as they can (make sure you stay overnight at least - any problems will be picked up within the first 24 hours). Take a good nightie for your overnight stay, but for the actual birth buy a cheap one for £1.99 in a market - it'll be messy! The midwife will tell you about other products (the men here may get a bit queasy if I say it)

spoke to my cousin and she says that i should just buy 3-6 months esp for vests as no one is gonna see them being winter. so i am gonna go get some in that size. just need to find clothes. for my blessing.

my second choice pushchair looks so nice but does not have swivel wheel in the front. so that means then i am gonna spend the extra for a swivel wheel 3 wheeler

LadyDay - Get disposable undies for the first couple of weeks after the baby.

Don't try rushing around to get everything done because you'll be knackered by time baby arrives!  Take your time and delegate tasks.

Monitor your visitors for the first few weeks after baby is born because it is very tiring.

When baby sleeps - you sleep.  I learnt the hard way.

BTW - Congratulations!

Lady Day,

I agree that you need swivel wheels at the front. With my first I had fixed wheels - never again!

Are you still going for an M&P pram? My brother has one, and he says it's very, very heavy! He's just bought a Maclaren, which he says is much lighter.

I keep meaning to look in some baby shops, but I just cannot be bothered. I suppose I'd better make the effort quite soon.

@Twang: Soldier with the 4:shock:. I still can't help but wonder where I think I'm going with this one. Good advice about the test once baby comes. Congrats on the new family member too.

@Natalie1: I hope the info does help and if you ever do need to PM please don't hesitate. Dealing with this is not easy at all.

@LadyDay: I found that a few outfits 3-6 months were useful. You may be at home for quite a while before you go visit others. A few more packs of the undergrows and baby grows will be good too as time to wash them before they get used again may not be enough. It all depends on how baby and you all settle in. As for you, make sure your nighties/nightclothes (bring at least 2) for hospital are dark.  Bring a little container of sea salts to bath in afterwards as well. 28 weeks already. The frequency of check ups sound normal.

@LadyVee: How far are you now?

Boy am I glad I've only got 6 weeks left. The space is running out. Starting to get excited about this little one though:)

***Long tings alert***

I have been on Maternity Leave for a week now.  Baby is due next week Wednesday 17th August.  This will be my first child.  banana.gif

I would like to say thank you for all the posts on this thread.  It has not only informed me greatly but has settled the fears I have about giving birth.  I am more excited about the prospect of seeing my baby for the first time.  Knowing the sex of my child and seeing what my baby looks like and if my baby has their father's feet!

The pregnancy has been fairly uneventful, but then I have no basis for comparison.  Had a bit of a scare at the beginning with some bleeding, but this did not occur again.  I have had problems with swollen ankles and have had the odd bout of morning sickness throughout the entire pregnancy.  This is usually triggered by a smell in the morning for example, the remnants of yesterdays dinner or my perfume.  I have been fairly active throughout even completed a 5 km walk for Cancer Research UK a couple of weeks ago.  Which I am extremely proud of!

I have had no cravings apart from constantly chewing on blocks of ice, which is the subject of amusement with my family.  The act of crunching down on the ice I find very theraputic.

The fact that myself and my partner is going to bring a human being into this world amazes me everytime I think about it.  I hope that I make a good mum.  If I am a tenth of my mum's achievements at motherhood I will be on the right track.

I plan to keep the birth as natural as possible with the use of gas and air and a water birth.  I will keep my options open though as I have no idea what the pain is going to be like and how I manage it.  I am openminded to the fact that I may want every drug under the sun when the time comes. bighairlol

My family and colleagues have been amazingly supportive.  I have been inundated with clothes and items for the baby.  I have no qualms with excepting second hand items but only if they do not impact on the safety of my baby.  So second hand car seats even though I have been offered them is a no no to me.  Without their kind support, I doubt if we could cope with everything that needs to be purchased for a baby.  One thing that has hit me hard is that preparing for a baby is expensive!  I have been told that Kiddicare is brilliant when buying stuff.  I found a cot bed there for £99.  A bargain!

I have one concern though.  It is my family's way to breastfeed, in fact it is not questioned that this is what I am going to do.  I have large boobs so have been wearing underwired bras throughout to give me the support I need.  I am scared that wearing an underwired bra has affected my chances of breastfeeding.  After reading the thread I am concerned.  Has anybody had any trouble breastfeeding?  Did wearing an underwired bra cause the problem?

Also is anybody planning to use or have used terry nappies?  If yes, could you tell me the best places to buy terry nappies, shaped natural nappies and equipment (nappy buckets) etc.  I am having problems locating a decent supplier, as I found that the high street stores sell them, with not much choice and at exorbitant prices.

Many thanks all.  I am very pleased with this thread.

Nia

:)
