You have a point there. I didn't think of that off hand.

| Beyonce is clearly very beautiful. It has to be said that her facial features aren't typical of a true black woman. You only have to cast your eyes to Africa to see that. It seems to me that their are elemets of white, asian or some non-black gene running through her system. Whether her hair is black or blonde she wouldn't look like a black woman anyway.

Beyonce is a fair-skinned African-American woman. She has a black woman's nose, lips and hips. What part of her is Asian? You people are just too much...SMH For your information there are a load of fair-skinned African woman on the continent who are even lighter than Beyonce.

Because of Beyonce and Afro-Americans claiming to 'come in all colors' African women are BLEACHING THEIR SKIN!!! (how is that a positive)?
This is exactly why I advocate African & Carribean youths getting their own role models! Following American standards seems to be causing Havoc in other communities!
Watching African girls idolize Beyonce is like watching Afro-American girls idolize Mariah Carey. Yes Beyonce is of African descent & yes Mariah Carey is of Afro-American descent....................but the piont is most African girls DO NOT LOOK LIKE BEYONCE ANYMORE THAN MOST AA GIRLS LOOK LIKE MARIAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It would simply makeS more sense for Afro-American girls to find role models in their own community of women with their same ancestry/history than try to copy ANYONE WHO CLAIMS TO OF AA DESCENT!! Same with African girls!! Africa is a HUGEEEEEEEEEE CONTINENT. Why can't African youth find an role models on it??? It is much better for African girls to find a role model in a woman who is from Nigeria and claims to be ethnicially Yoruba LIKE THEM, then trying to be a woman that claims to be BLACK/WHITE AND INDIAN!!!
This kind of stuff only leads to self esteem issues later..........

This is the real deal. In America Africans since slavery times have had a problem with their selves. Its a problem that was created by white slavers who doing slavery times made the dark slaves i.e. anyone dark than a brown paper bag work the fields, And the lighter skinned mixed black people we're allowed to work in the houses.
Sooooo in effect to this day after years and years of pushing that in African Americans heads that they had to be light and white or darn near close to it to be acceptable, It stuck and still is everywhere. So that’s why you see people like Beyonce that try to look as white as possible.
And that’s why you have the craze of black women in this country more than any other group of women trying to look whiter. Look at BET they only promote in there commercials white hair care products. Needless to say BET is not black owned anymore. Blacks need to get there own FUBU stuff for us by us.
Everything about black women in are society is shown in a negative light. Even they took our own natural hair that we're born with, and they gave it a name “the afro. It could not just be our natural hair. They had to make it into a style not part of our culture and who we our, then when you wear your hair natural its Afro centric. Hahahah what a name! But if a sista goes out and wears a weave or perms the death out of her hair she is not called Euro centric for doing that? It's not about the hair color. It's wayyyyyyyyy deeper than that.
It's about black people and their deranged thinking patterns brought about by slavery. To be on TV in this country they want you to be as Euro centric as possible. And if you’re black you have to wash all the African culture out of yourself to be accepted. And why should blacks have to worry about being accepted by whites in our day and age. Puffy and Russell and all these big wigs in the African American community should be making there own networks and creating there own shows and images that put us in a good light. They have the money to do so.
But noooo instead they go out and get non black women and promote them as being the best and better than just a plain ol’ black women, In the same fashion as the slavers that pushed that thinking into their fore-fathers heads’ that anything non-black is better. So until blacks start doing there own thing and not worrying about if whites, we’re going to continue seeing Blonde Beyonces and Eves and Lil Kims
adorning themselves with blue eyes and skin lighting creams, and staying out of the sun hahahhaha. Black People African People you need to wake up and smell the identity slave complex’s simmering in your houses. Love yourself. Some notes to remember: Afro hair is not from the 70’s, nor is it a style, its how we come out when we’re born. Also the statement black is beautiful did not come from the 70’s it should be a life style that we instill in our African babies of all different shades. A word to all my African Sista’s and Brotha’s
Peace

Beyonce is blak but she is fake as f*** with blonde hair weave and her nose job. As a matter of fact all the Destiny child members had nose jobs. Just like that fake as LiL' Kim she's the fakest out of all them muuhf***as . Have you seen her bleached ass lately? If you're not black enough to hold on to you're black features then in my eyes you're fake. Maybe I just don't like Beyonce's spotlight hoggin ass . But she definitly is Black.

Now that isn't true, Africans are as diverse as they come. The Bushmen for instance have the same slanted eyes as Far East Asians and have red skin, East Africans have straight noses and come in varying shades of blue-black, brown, yellow and high yellow. West Africans are also very diverse with varying eye shapes from big and round to slanted, different ranges of flat noses, and varying shades of brown skin. There are also West Africans, mostly the forest people who are yellow and red skinned. Southern Sudanese people are mostly blue-black and are tall and lanky. There is no true definition of black, black people are in fact the most genetically diverse of all races.
Here are some African models from all regions of Africa, see how diverse they are:
The girl in the middle, Agbani Darego, is West African
Yasmin Warsame is East African, see how her features are very different from Agbani Darego's yet they are both black and from Africa.
Liya Kebede is also East African but look how different she looks from both Yasmin, who is also East African, and Agbani Darego
Oluchi is West African, yet doesn't have the same nose shape as Agbani Darego even though they are both Nigerian
Kiara Kabukuru is East African yet she looks like a West African type.
Nelson Mandela is a good example of what most Bushmen look like with red skin and slanted eyes.

And if you compare Beyonce's features to that of an African and a white woman, you will see that she has predominately black features.
Agbani Darego

On Beyonce not being black.... blame it on America's classification of race. Beyonce may be of black/indian/white ancestry... but I can't think of too many people who aren't. Both sides of my family have those mixes, and we all view ourselves as black. We've had our natural hair trials and tribulations... what color to dye it... whether to straighten it. I know many people in other countries don't have the same view of race as America... but I've been conditioned to see Beyonce as a Black woman...
AND TRUST AND BELIEVE..... No matter what color Beyonce's hair is, nor how pale her skin becomes... There is NO white person in America who would be fooled for a second into believing she is white... nor would they even think of refering to her as white. Vanessa Williams might trip them up... but if they find out anyone in your family is black... you are black to white people here.
I don't see it as a particularly detrimental thing for America to have light-skinned icons... skin lightening cremes aren't very big here in America (however having an even skin tone is)... Men here are slightly partial to lighter women... but females here for the most part accept their skin color (although yes B.E.T. is getting lighter and the white owners are starting to replace the former black hosts with Latinos- some of whom are black by American standards regardless of their aversion to it...white people are trying to bring BET back around to themselves... and market white to black)... the most detrimental part of these entertainment icons is their hair.
I think it is the hair that trips up American black females... because it is far and few between to see younger women going natural. We dye it, fry it, weave it, glue it... and DESTROY our hair to have long flowing tresses.
No... noone here in America is concerned with Beyonce's complexion... because 100% of Americans with TV know she is black (Note: I said Americans... not people with foreign race standards)... her hair is just another push for black girls to destroy their hair, but her hair is her freedom so who are we to say anything? All we can do is hope for a natural sister to make it and never fake it (though we all slip up, right?).
BTW... on the other hand... maybe they are trying to pass her off as OTHER... because I've seen that L'Oreal commercial in spanish... with her speaking... in spanish. I was like "What fresh hell is this?" Why couldn't L'Oreal get JLo or Salma Hayek?!

As a West African woman, I can tell you that are many lighskinned woman on the African continent who do not know anything about bleaching. Black people really do come in all shades and that notion is not just in America. IAs far as I am aware Beyonce doesn't bleach her skin so how is she advocating that kind of behaviour?
think that the title of this thread is stupid as in my opinion there is nothing European about Beyonce's features at all!
Nigerian model Nnenna
Nigerian school girls..note the yellow one at the end..her complexion is not that much different from Beyonce's is it?
Another bunch of Nigerian school girls..again in the middle i even fairer skinned than Beyonce
Another
We do come in all shades and we aren't always mixed like you black Americans sometimes claim to be!

THINK!
I have no doubt in my mind that those women are NIGERIAN!
However one can not simply look over the obvious facts!
Afro-Americans are of WEST AFRICAN DESCENT!!! That much has been proven!
It has also been proven that Afro-Americans average (as a whole) roughly 20-25% non-black Admixture. Now this I'm sure HELPS account for their high varation in apperance.
However what I don't understand is how can "pure" West Africans vary so much in skin color (as many of them claim) and yet Afro-Americans are of the same stock and their admixture helps account for theirs??? Did all this skin variation occur AFTER AA's descendant's left Africa???
Another obvious question to ask is if some of these women identify as Colored/Half Caste Nigerians and not "Black" Nigerians at all??? Since Nigeria has one of the best econmies in Africa I am sure the country would have seen a lot of immigration, including Arab countries................
Again these are logical questions/ideas!!! Nigeria is a COUNTRY and not a "Race". I've seen women of Dutch descent representing South Africa quite a few times in beauty pageants- however it would defeat the purpose of REAL "Black" South Africans holding their/her picture up speaking of the beauty and diversity of South African women and "black" women.

I don't know what the hell you're on about, or even what this thread has descended into, but smartypants, please, I implore you, don't use the term "half-cast". It's a bit derogatory. Mixed race... coloured, if you REALLY have to... but not "half-cast".
merci.

Did all this skin variation occur AFTER AA's descendant's left Africa??? Not every single West African country was involved in the slave trade. And not every single West African was sold as a slave. Slave traders where very selective with the people they choose. Because they knew that these people were going to be working in the blistering heat, they made sure that they only picked the strongest, tallest and darkers people that they could find because after their failed attempt to enslave Native Americans, who usually died under the strain of working in the fields, and other Europeans, who escaped and blended in with the other whites, they wanted to make sure that the African slaves where herdy enough to withstand the pressures. This is why today, African-Americans are usually taller and bigger than their West African counterparts. I'm from West Africa and I can assure you that there are very obvious differences in stature among us and African-Americans. And yes, there are naturally light skinned people in West Africa. My aunt is one of them and she is not in anyway mixed, nobody in my family is. Usually people who evolved in forests in West Africa, are lighter than those who did not. There's a huge range of variation in West Africa, and the average African American, even the darker ones like Kelly Rowland, does not resemble the average West African.
Another obvious question to ask is if some of these women identify as Colored/Half Caste Nigerians and not "Black" Nigerians at all??? Since Nigeria has one of the best econmies in Africa I am sure the country would have seen a lot of immigration, including Arab countries................ Nigeria didn't really have much immigration from Arab countries only East Africans did. The country does have many ethnic groups like the Yoruba, the Fulani and the Igbo, but none of these people have any considerable admixtures within them. And none of these women would identify themselves as colored/half castes unless they know for certain that they have a non-black person in their ancestory. You also have to understand that many Africans do not see themselves as a race and do not identify themselves based on racial lines, they see themselves in terms of ethnic or tribal lines. Only in some places in Southern Africa and Eastern Africa, where racial theories was rampantly practiced by whites, do you see people differentiating themselves according to race.
And another thing, in Nigeria most people refer to themselves as brown and call white people pink if you ask them what race/colour they and whites are. Very few people have a concept of the black race, they'd probably call a Southern Sudanese black because of his/her skin colour but they wouldn't be talking about their race per se. So if a person refers to themselves as red in Africa, that person is simply talking about their skin colour and not what race they belong to.

Is that so? Is that why there are threads like "Serena Williams, boobs and nipples"? and "Little Kim shows her vagina"?. Or is that why Brandy, Mary J. Blige, and other dark skinned women have been cussed on other threads for having blonde hair? If you go through some of the threads on this site, you will see how much slack Little Kim takes from people here. Why aren't you on those threads trying to defend her as well?

(This is just about Beyonces performance at the awards, not about personal opinions, etc)
I was watching the Oscars and was very surprised to see Beyonce performing 3 songs. I didnt know about it beforehand so
Anyways, how do people think she did. Reading the IMDB forums, 97% of the people there think she 'sucked'. However, not really sure about the agenda of certian members of that forum although I did take on board the French/ french speaking criticism of the song she sang. One person compared her French to Joey Tribiani in the Firends episode. Any1 who saw that episode knows that not a compliment. I actually think it sounded nice. I was thinking hmm, I didnt know she was bi-lingual. I was impressed. Turns out she wsnt but at the moment, I was feeling it
Song number 2. I thought it wasnt classy to accept to sing Minnie Drivers tune seeing as though she was already singing 2 others and seeing as though she sang it at The Grammy's. Imagine the PR if she turned it down. She would have gone up in ''evryone's '' estimation. However, I think Andrew Lyold Webbers hould have grown some balls and said '' NO''!! He didnt cast Beyonce in the film, she didnt sing the song tht got it nominated. Say what you want about Spike Lee, etc but he never would have had that. That being said, Beyonce did do an alright job
I think she did ok/wellish but it was overkill for me.
Any other responses will be welcome

| Couldn't give a sh*t. It's not like I care about Beyonce as a person. She could get hit by a train tomorrow and I'd just shrug and think, sh*t that train driver has to live through that mishap for the rest of his life, regardless of the fact he just did a great and rewardable service to humanity.

A majority of black Americans can pass for West Africans.
Oprah, Kci & Jo-jo, Samuel L Jackson, Angie Stone, Fantasia, Biggie, Chris Tucker, Star Jones, Latavia (ex destiny's child) Kelly Rowland ( take away the horse hair and the overdone make-up) 50 cent, Puffy, Martin, Kelle (ANTM), Sharon(The lady who played the mother in Ray)Venus and Serena, Flavour Flav...the list goes on. To the person who said that Black Americans are mixed with white and Indian keep on fooling yourself.

| Nigeria is not a race you are right! But anyone who claims to be Nigerian is definetly indigenous to the country. It is not like other countries.

| Think... you don't have to believe that most black Americans are partially white and native american. If you look into it online though, you will see it said again and again (even under that wikipedia site). Not all, but most. My family, I personally know that is the case. And why would it be something you can't believe? With the One-drop Idealogy, many mixed blacks married back into the black community because they were seen as blacks. And then again, some kept diluting the black to make their kids white. Americans who have long enough histories in this country are mutts whether they know it or not (all it takes is a few individuals who pass). I know for a fact that one of my maternal great-great grandmother was 100% Native american (and that alone would put me at 1/16th N.A....) and one of my maternal great-great grandfather was white... we are now up to 1/8th not black.... and that is taking into account ONLY my mother's side and ONLY looking at 2 people. But instead of doing complicated mathematics which boil down to nothing, I prefer to stick with being black because that is who I am comfortable being (as most of Black America is). If asked what I am, I reply black (and nothing more). The reason looks vary so much in the Black American community is because the genes are a mixed bag. That is why 2 dark or medium complexioned people can make light skinned hazel eyed babies... and even the opposite happens sometime. As to whether we can pass for West African, some of us can... I'd always been under the impression that the vast majority of the diasporans in the Americas originally came from there. Nobody is trying to deny African roots, black Americans are still just learning more about themselves.

HUH? I really didn't get this. It was like you sat down and throw the words on the computer screen like HERE READ THIS....I had to read it four times just to figure out what you were trying to say.
I'd say take some grammer classes, and leave Beyonce to B.....but let me educate you on a few things (obviously) young sister.
Beyonce, got the endorsment from L'Oreal Parris, because it has lanunched 24 True Match shades in the United States. The television ads airing in Canada feature Beyonce.
The six shades not sold in Canada are the darkest shades in the US. L’Oreal told Street Cents the shades sold in Canada were chosen based on survey research on shades. Also, there are darker True Match shades sold in the United States because the African American population is higher there than in Canada. Simply put, L'Oreal is trying to wooo the AFrican-American population with their darker hue colors.........no trying to get them to look white.
*shakes head*.......next thing you are going to tell me is since white people get tans, that want to look black.
*shakes head*

Well first of all, Think proved a piont I've been trying to make for quite a while now! Most West Africans do NOT "come in all these skin colors" and are most aren't HALF as DIVERSE looking as most of them are trying to have us believe!
Tell me this! If someone claims to have a mirage of looks- from light skinned to dark, all kinds of hair textures etc, then how can a whole ETHNIC group LOOK LIKE YOU??? A **DIVERSE** community does NOT have a "look".
Does Harold Ford look like Michael Jordan?
http://www.restoringamerica.org/images/harold-ford.jpg
http://biografieonline.it/biografia.htm?BioID=65&biografia=Michael+Jordan
Does Lena Horne look like Hattie McDaniel?
http://www.si.edu/ajazzh/images/horne.jpg
http://www.meredy.com/hattie01.jpg
Yet aren't they ALL Afro-Americans??!(which they are!)
So if Micheal Jordan & Hattie McDaniel LOOK West African than its safe to say most West Africans are not diverse looking and are very Negriod!........but a day from now, al l the West Africans on the board will be telling everyone they are "African" and that their are many "light skinned" women in Africa(without Bleaching)!
It has to be one or the other!!! Either West Africans are DIVERSE and come in all skin colors and hair textures, or either West Africans are Negriod (as everyone suspects) and have a very distinct look like Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah!
Secondly, I really shouldn't waste my time on commenting on non-African admixture in Afro-Americans! There are a MILLION studyings on the internet of this!
Thirdly: FYI, Biggie Smalls/Nortorious BIG is Jamician and NOT Afro-American. Many African and West Indian youths come to this country and try to assimilate into the Afro-American community. They try to get rid of their accents, culture, etc, and just call themselves "Black" like Afro-American youths do! However that does not change their orgins and hertiage!
Colin Powell's biography talks about this! Growing up he was ashamed of being West Indian. His wifes' family did not want her to marry a 'west Indian" as he claims in his book. And to this very day, he runs around calling himself "Afro-American"- as opposed to Jamician American or Carribean or West Indian!
