I have recently been caught by the Myspace bug and regularly go on there and write my blogs etc. Its getting to be quite addictive!lol

However the one thing I seem to notice time and time again is Black people particularly women, love to talk about their Cherokee, Middle-Eastern, Italian etc mixture/heritage. Do these people know a thing about this part of their heritage and are they merely just proud of where they come from? Or are they talking about a distant relative from way back who was non Black, so therefore know nothing about any part of this culture they love to talk about.

When people write about themselves in the "about me" sectin one of the first things they mention is the mixture in their heritage.Like it is their USP (unique selling point). Ie a young black girl from London who was a 1/4 middle eastern she wrote. "Yeah cos true say Im 1/4 Asian innit, so cant diss my Asian peeps cos Im one of dem"....! Its normally the people who you cannot tell are mixed in the slightest that do this.

So are they self hating coons or just merely appreciating and embracing all aspects of ther heritage??

They're self haters, simple.

That's one thing that annoys the hell out of me with the 'I'm anything but African' brigade. Other people don't do this, it's only us. They harper so much on the aesthetics it's as if you're not a somebody if you don't even look as if you have a drop of slaver rapist blood in your veins. With the women it's even worse because whenever you look on any 'black' model's profile they always talk about what Irish or Indian they supposedly have in them, when some of them come in like Alek Wek too rahtid.

As for myself, I'm a dark skinned Child of Africa and couldn't care less about what ounce whatever else blood I may have in me.

Myspace is full of jokers anyway and it's never appealed to me.

they're sippin on some haterade for sure b/c every (obviously) mixed person I know (myself included) never feels the need to proclaim that they're mixed. For me, personaly, it's b/c it's obvious i'm mixed, and b/c I get the question so many times that I try to stay away from bringing up that topic all together...oh, and also b/c I could give a rat's ass if other people know i'm  mixed. I don't need a selling point and I don't want a selling point, especially not one that is so shallow and pointless, and I don't want to attract people that would consider my mixture a selling point.

Most likely those that bigup their "mixtures" feel the need to convince people they are (if it's less obvious)  and they probably have a low self-esteem when it comes to their abilities and personality that they need to play the mixed card.

@ PH,I must be one of those jokers! Just like to write my blogs ranting about things. Alek Wek could be mixed to rahtid!lol that made me laugh. Leave the sister alone maan! Even the so-called "concious" sisters do this nonsense. There was a girl Isaw yesterday proclaiming her Cherokee heritage who had African memorobilia etc on her page. It just makes you think there are so many fake so-called dashiki wearing concious people. She probably was even shacked up with a wazungu...

@Afriki, I dont think its haterade they are sipping on they are obviously envious of people like you who dont have to proclaim they are mixed because like duhh its obvious. But the ones who are obviously mixed do it aswell. And even feel the need to "big up all the mix race peeps dem holdin it down" Yeah I have seen it.  I do think some obviously mixed race people do shout about their mix. They do it in a way because they feel it makes them superior to non mixed people. But its only because some self-hating blacks make them feel like they are better.  The non- obvious mixed blacks will go through their family tree declaring about any non black ancestor whether they know anything about the culture or not.

I know people on MySpace who won't even put 'Black' on their profile because they want people to ponder what they are. Even guys do it. I just don't understand how people can be ashamed of who they are... and that girl with the 1/4 asian ting, she is truely an idiot because fact is Asians could not give a rats azz that you got a likle bit of their blood in you if you don't look the part which she obviously don't which is why she's claiming so hard and believe me she knows it too

lol in an african group in myspace I just put that same topic of mine about animals in west africa.  A dude told me I'm racist for saying that white people must have killed the animals.  An african dude.  In an African group.  **Shakes head**

Yes people are funky in myspace but that's a truer representation of the masses of us in general than BN which I think is slighty out of kilter with the attitudes and viewpoints of most africans in todays world.  If you disagree with that then I say you're out of touch seriously.

The upsetting truth is that yes many of us are embracing this we are the world, i ain't african, blah blah blah happy clappy f**keries.

There are groups like BN on myspace with similar groups but in order to keep the vibe, people have to go to stern lengths to moderate their groups.

WOW, ... and the thing is, they can legally do that and have every right too, although I believe it also gives an unfair impression, baseing someone's job ability on their personal life has Myspace, face, hi 5 are more reflective on their private life, not their working ethics
