I'm so pleased for her too...
her voice is so deep and rich...oustanding!
I can't understand how she lost out in Idol...her voice gives me that old soul feeling...I guess she was always meant to be better than an "Idol"...I hope she cleans up at the Oscars too...
Funnily enough no word from the B camp as yet...
Here's hoping they are indeed "happy" for her too..

Good for her......I love her voice!
The Beyonce digs are unecessary, one Black woman has gotten some well deserved shine, it doesn't equal an automatic kick in the teeth for another Black woman......sometimes we are just our own worst enemies.

I think people are saying this because it was reported that Beyonce's father, not Beyonce, was trying to get Jennifer's role relegated to a smaller role because he didn't want her to come out as a break-out star of the film. Apparently he tried to do this because she refused to let him be her manager.

Chi, you're not placed to tell anyone what to say or not say...
Perhaps you are not aware there was friction and a classic case of "Diana and the supremes" pardon me "Beyonce and destiny's child" scenario by the B camp which didn't seem to be favouring Jennifer's role and against ALL ODDS she won! now thats something to celebrate and just because Beyonce is black is no excuse to not speak up if her conduct is questionable..she made some comments herself which I choose not to repeat here when she was interviewed about Jennifer's role on Dreamgirls..
Besides I said lets hope they are happy for her...I truly do hope so..it would quite nasty & petty to hate on her success

Thank You!
And it has been the modus operandi in the B camp from day one to relegate others and pour maximum amounts of shine on Beyonce at all costs.
So it's not hateration,its observation.

Supporting actress?
Hmmmmm....
She was tremendous, so I guess it's good she got an award at all, although I'd much prefer it if she were a leading actress.

She deserves it.
I didn't know about her American Idol background, so i will have to see who can beat this wonderful voice.
Speaking of Dreamgirls. I keep asking myself, how Beyonce must have felt during the production. i mean, any kind of bad conscience? Must have reminded her of her own Destiny's Child stories.

lol.....Aryek you have been here long enough to know its nothing to do with anything Matthew is reported to have done, its because people constantly have to pit other Black female talents against Beyonce.
I think they're both beautiful and talented, love the last picture of them together.
Black women....when will we learn?
Anyhoo........hope they climb higher. How was the other lady in the film, noone seems to be speaking about her at all.....next people will claim Jennifer is hogging the whole spotlight ALA "destiny's child"......lol....lol

What do you mean Kunjufu... O you mean the Mel B thing right... I was peeved about that too and even the whole him divorcing Nicole thing .... but I don't think he disrespects the sistas.
BTW, I'm so PROUD that the dreamgirls cast won well and extremely happy Jennifer got that Globe ! People have been raving about her for weeks on this film and this tops it cause girl deserves. I will definatly be watching it in theatres on Feb 2nd... I wish beyonce well too, be I can tell she would have felt a little outdone, but don't matter, the sista is still successful, but I guess when you work for nearly a year on a film day in and day out, winning that award makes all seem worth it. Guess B will win next tie round. Still luv her though !

Menz...at least be honest with yourself........I read the interview too, she said no untoward comments (why dont you post it here), she was asked if she was basical;y jealous of Jennifer and she said she already has her own success, basically. I dont see how Beyonce could be standing in the way of Jennifer when she wasn't even up for best supporting actress (as far as I know) and they both tried out for separate roles, so people should not try and make something out of absolutely nothing just because it Beyonce it seems desperate..........its not about telling people what to say either, but at least come real with it........because its quite obvious.......lol
Anyhoo......I hope Jennifer rides this wave. She was robbed in American Idol......she was one of the best IMO. She is looking beautiful too.

chi,
Like I said before I don't want to post any interview transcript, and remember Beyonce had several interviews , so there is no guarantee that what I watched was what you saw. Just because you have a certain point of view does not mean you need to get preachy on anyone else. We're all black fine, but it's not like I'm in the white controlled tabloids pulling her down,if we can't reprimand ourselves here ,where can we?
With your tone you're probably implying the whole "Beyonce and destiny's child thing" didn't happen and perhaps it was just "natural selection" that made her bigger than both line-ups destiny's child has ever had...but then you'd be entitled to it,it's a free world..

Um, aren't both Mel B and Eddie's ex wife mixed-race? When did that make them Black? (sorry, just a personal hang-up of mine). Or did you mean some other Black woman that he was involved with?
Eddie was excellent in the movie, so why can't we judge him on his performance in the film, as opposed to his private life?

Don't think anyone is questioning their acting chops Vezz,Eddie and Jamie are two of the most alented actors out there....White or Black.
It's their personal lives and personal stance which leaves much to be desired.
One only has to remember certain diatribes of Eddies from RAW and how African women of a certain hue are depicted in both Boomerang and Coming to America....interviews i've read of other African actresses who weren't even considered for casting because Eddie says he would never date them in real life......and the litany of off-key behaviour goes on and on,irrespective of mixed raced Mel B and Nicole.
Jamie has followed pretty much the same template, you hear it in his comedy about Africans, you witness who he dates exclusively, you can see it's evidence in a recent thread on him in this forum.
So when K sez Eddie can eat ish and die,I totally get that point of view...even though in my opinion both men have talent ooozing out of every Goddamn pore.
And I cant wait to see Dreamgirls.

| I think eddie is disrespectful of women regardless of race, hues or color, and yes he was with black women and teated them like sh*t... Eddie to me is a Down Low brother. I've heared that he's not quite an approachable person off screen and if the comments he made about african women are true, then that is just wrong and hateful of them and himself, although he won't be able to see it that way.

I hear you JB, but I personally think K's comment intimated that he didn't like Eddie full stop, therefore won't give him due props for his portrayal of Jimmy Early in the film.
That, to me, is just plain wrong. All of the main leads were excellent, and I say this regardless of my personal feelings for them.
We needs to be objective, is all.......

@Menz, all I know is that two Black women are getting their success on at the moment in that film........I have no interest in using the opportunity to tear one of them down, you'll have to do that all on your own I'm afraid.

@ Vezz
Actually I took K's comments to mean that he couldn't care less about how good (or bad) Eddie was in the film, because he simply can't stand the guy....full stop. I didn't take it that he was saying Eddie's performance was sh*t merely because he thinks Eddie is sh*t as a human being. He didn't comment on the performance one way or the other, neither agreeing or disagreeing it was good. He just couldn't care less about it one way or the other, because he doesn't care less about Eddie.
Objectivity has nothing to do with since he is not even making an assessment on Eddies acting, just his character.
Respect

chi,
You don't get it do you?? every critism does not come out of spite, some times you discipline a child out of love, but you seem to be bent on your "I must be right bar other opinions crusade" ,so I'll let you get on with "saving the black women trying to be their own enemies" ...(they clearly need saving!)

On this unimportant exchange of words I have said my last to you.

To clarify...I don't like Eddie Murphy FULLSTOP.......I will go to see DreamGirls only because i want to see the other stars...but if this film were an Eddie Murphy Vehicle no way in hell would i spend my cash to see that low life b**tard.....
And before anyone cries foul..allow me to make some comparisons...I used to like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Arnie schartztnegger, but after i found out just how fascist these people were..there was no way i could watch another movie by these gits again....especially John wayne who was practically one step removed from the Klan.....
Are people saying I should equally ignore their views and just admire their acting..I don't think so?
