I also think black women in general have more of a scope of diversity to not only desire/lust after the shemars and boris' of the world,but truly love all blackmen ....
So in other words you've noticed, but it just doesn't matter, because they are not dark?

There are also shows where they have used dark skinned females ie, fresh prince (the only light skinned woman apart from the new wife was the airhead sister)

Two out of three main female characters being fair is still a fair majority,and like u said they did displace a dark woman to add the new mum,
bernie mac, both the step mother and the daughter are dark (no light skinned women at all),
No offence ,I think Bernie mac is probably the fuinniest comedian on telly ,but that show never really took off in the ukone series and that was that
Girlfriends,
One mixed,one mixed that could truly pass for white and 2 dark sisters ,well balanced if u ask me
the cosby's,
there were 3 light (mum and 2 sis) and 2 dark,ruddy and melisa(the chat show host)
Eve,
I don't think of eve as dark but if u must then yeah no light ones here..

I'll give u this one ,no light females but they did bring quite a few light love interst men in,Q her man was light...
The parkers.........
and this ,No light women in the main crew,apart from the various love interests of the professor..
there are many if you actually sit down and look closely.................
incidently none of these shows (except fresh prince) have any light skinned males in it for any significant roles...................
I agree they donot have many significant roles in black comedy shows you have hightlighted but they are making it in bigger media projects like movies,Vin diesel,The rock,Shemar,Boris,the guy in CSI,the guy in "charmed" darrel the police officer, the lawyer boss guy in Will and Grace (who was in waiting to exhale as well) the list goes on..so I do sit and watch closely...
I have to disagree with you that light skinned men are not marginalised....they generally are when it comes to black TV and even black literature, they are always portrayed in a particular light.........the one not to be trusted, scheming, ladies man, weak etc.........there is a trend. The only thing is that they don't complain about it.
We will agree to disagree on that point because I don't believe they even feel marginalized,I don't think its possible to tell an itcher where to itch,to you it may feel they are being marginalized,but I don't believe they agree with you or they would complain themselves.

My wife and kids is brilliant. Really really funny.
About that light skinned issue of the daughters - the wife is biracial, so the girls take after her. The boy takes after michael.
Anyway, whatever, the new claire is a lot funnier than the old claire, she was just damn irratating.
BUT , the new series is not very good at all. Except for the table football one, that was funny. But i have not been impressed, the stories are becoming a bit too silly and over acted.
But J, is one funny woman!

Yeh that's what i think as well, her squeaky voice used to get on my nerves! The dark skinned girl just couldn't act that's what it came down to, not the colour of her skin. I'm not sure why they replaced 'vanessa' but i think megan goode probably had better offers on the table and decided to leave.

But J gave me joke when she was telling michael about her ideas, and just switching on him.

My Wife andd Kids is very funny
My fave episode is when Micheal is addicted to the video game and he goes to the physchiatrist and she there talkign about the game as well. Loved J's response
Also love the episode wher they got remarried, it was so sweet.
Franklin is annoying, Junior is just toooooooooooooooo stupid. Kate is to old tobe cute, too young to be interesting. Claire is good i her role but its all about the parents, they got a great nemesis relationship. J being the sane one and Michael being the idiotI stl think Michael is an insecure neck stepper who neevr wants his wife to shine(at anything ) but he funny. Love the way he bribes people. There are better couple then the Cosby's and possibly the Banks's ( Defo Phil with the New Viv, maybe not better then Phil with the old viv)

Cash - what do you mean neck stepper?
You know what when i watch them, it really seems like they are a real couple! They have much more chemistry then any one other couple i've seen. even uncle phil and old aunt viv - that new aunt viv, was TOO DAMN ANNOYING. She had nothing to say, when she came, that was the beginning of the end for fresh prince.
I don't know why they make junior as stupid as he is. Its annoying sometimes. In the beginning he wasn't stupid, he was actually very clever, and good at lying. But now he is a dumb arse.
Wait who saw the one with the table football, when he was shouting at his wife! OH NO THAT WAS FUNNY!!!!!!
Franklin - hmmmm he sometimes can be funny, but he gets on my nerves a bit.
and poor kady, she's going through tha rudy stage, where her cuteness is going, but she's not yet there as a teenager. Arkward stage man!
Best character is J! she is wicked and she shines.

There was that white family who Kyle had a beef with, the chemistry between him and the lead from the white family was brilliant. In the restaurant but especially the bowling alley
The reason I loe it is because I see myself as Kyle apart fromthe neck stepping. He keeps it real. Soetimes he wants to jam by himself, watch the game(basketball0 and not be disturbed. You gotta love that

Yeah he does that all the time. I remember when she lost her job, that was a funny episode, and he was happy until she became depressed.
I love how she doesn't take no nonsense from him. I remember once he clapped at her to hurry up - SHE SWITCHED LIKE A NIGERIAN AUNTY! She came to him and said NEVER EVER EVER IN YOUR LIFE CLAP AT ME AGAIN!

Look at stacey dash she has two kids, she's gonna be 40 this year and she was playing a 17 year old in clueless while she was in her 30's!
i dont think they need spencer in the show cos he doesnt actually do anything. but i never liked it at first and now it's just grown on me.

Interesting observations throughout this topic, especially about the skintone of the characters on the show.
Damon Wayans is the controller of the show, and i think, his own personal insecurities have affected the cast. Light-skinned women - even the baybmothers mother!, beause that's his personal preference. No Light-skinned men, because they make him feel inferior. Even the kids friends are not dark-skinned for gods sake.
Programme is funny trash! I will always be a fresh prince fan.

....good riddance....that show is pants (except the mums)....I only watch it because they are bl;ack to be honest, and I'm hoping it improves, but alas..........it never did.
I'd rather watch re-runs of "a different world".

| I doubt it.I believe the show has completed 100 episodes.That can qualify it for syndication.I'm curius that the show is not on DVD.But few current Black series are.

Does anyone know why they changed Claire on "My Wife & Kids". Was it perhaps mail from viewers that thought she did not fit in, or wasn't pretty enough? Or, was it her extremely high-pitched voice? Or did she just quit on her own accord?
