Play music, do an ideas chart or focus on something else.

@ LadyDay
Just to elaborate. One of the best ways to beat writers block is to write. I know sounds odd, afterall the whole point of writers block is that you can't write. But what I mean is that you write things that don't need so much thought and effort just to get yourself into the flow of writing and to wake up the brain cells.
The thing about posting on Black Net is that your writing tends to be more an expression of what you feel and does not involve as much deep thinking as when you are say, writing a creative piece. However, just writing stuff can help to release your 'writing blockage' - at least this is what I find. Mind you it doesn't have to be posting on BNV to do that, just bashing out any stuff on the old key boards e.g. a review of your day at work, personal thoughts about a situation, or simply anything where you are just writing your thoughts all help with releasing the blockage.
I find that writers block occurs when you are trying to create something in particular, e.g. you decide you want to write a particular story, and the effort of trying to make it come just right can get so overbearing that nothing comes out. Then I find the last thing you should think about is that story and instead go write other stuff, like I mentioned already. You could find it clears the brain and makes it easier for you to come back to the thing you were trying to write about with a fresh and more relaxed approaced.
Respect

Am having a sorta writers block myself LadyDay
I am simply not motivated to finish my story anymore. It was going to be a fantasy story, I had all worked out and was two chapters into. Had an African setting and everything.
But I can't finish it because I've come to realise that not ONE idea I had for plot or anything was original. Especially the things I was convinced were unique. Plot devices, character traits, events, perspective every damn thing has been done somewhere before. Sometimes in very popular fiction or on TV. Granted not all at once but the idea of putting together bits of other peoples stories and giving it a new face didn't appeal to me. I wanted my own complete different story. Sure my setting and theme was unique but that's not enough.
Now a friend of mine says that's impossible because everything has been done before and all we do is rehash old ideas. Maybe cynical but I've said similar things myself about real life history and politics very recently so I can appreciate the point.
Part of me feels I should still finish what I started if only for the experience of doing it but I'm so vexed I can't be bothered right now. Maybe later. I mean I have worked on it in a few months and slowly came to figure out why.
I feel more like taking a break from writing altogther and seeing if I can do the impossible and have completly original brand new ideas and concepts to write about.

How would that be possible? Writing has been around for centuries. Or do you simply mean in the genre you've chosen?
@Backatya what you suggested sometimes works for me, which is why I move away from the actual narrative and go on to ideas and plans-notes of what I could include in the plot, notes on character development etc
