I enjoy writing and have a good analysis of everyday life. However, my style isn't up to scratch, I haven't yet developed a creative style.

Do you think it's worth doing a creative writing course in Greenwich Community College, which costs £183.60 for 34 weeks?

I've bought a few books; which have helped with ideas, grammer etc but I still haven't grasped a presentable style. I assumed that the tutors would help with this because of constructive criticism that I would receive.

What do you think, is it worth the money?

Hi, Adeola. I can't comment on the Greenwich College course specifically, but I can say that I did a 10-week course at City of London University for around £100-£130 about two years ago, and I found it to be very useful indeed. I would definitely recommend their short courses to any aspiring writer. I still haven't finished my first novel (!), but I know, from having had feedback from the lecturer and classmates, that some people agree that I have something to say, and have potential 'characters' as cast-members for my novel(s).

Given what I know now, I would advise the Ebusua-of-three-years-ago to ask myself what I honestly expected to get from the course, whether I could commit the money and time, and to probably test out ideas which came to me during the course, on people whom I trusted, who were not on the course.

'Centerprise' in Hackney, London, has a fairly-well known creative writing project which is aimed at African/Caribbean/Asian writers, I believe, so they might be an alternative for you to consider. Their number is 020 7249 6572.

Finally, I've recently found an interesting internet article, about various aspects of black writing in several media, at  http://www.writernet.co.uk/images/288.pdf

Hope that this helps.

If you want to develop your creative style in a DIY fashion online, and everyday, try Fictionpress.com. Registration is easy, and they got a multi-lingual thing going on which is pretty revolutionary.
