Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I'm sorry but I am soooo not feeling this. Much love to Jamie Foxx though.

Miami Vice Remake Has Farrell An Foxx Chemistry
February 13, 2005, 10:45:32

FOXX AND FARRELL'S CHEMICAL REACTION

JAMIE FOXX can't wait to start work with COLIN FARRELL on a film version of MIAMI VICE because the actors have already built up a formidable offscreen chemistry following several meetings with director MICHAEL MANN.

Foxx says, "The chemistry between us is already there, like it was with me and TOM CRUISE in COLLATERAL, so making this movie is going to be a total blast.
The OSCAR-nominated RAY star knows working with the Irish wildman will be a hellraising experience - but he's convinced they will be the envy of mankind when the remake hits cinemas next year (06).

I wonder - how many of these recent remakes have added anything special to the original?

Psycho (1998) blkthumbsdown

Why did director Gus Van Sant decide to virtually duplicate every shot of Hitchcock's 1960 original? It rendered this remake pointless. Stick with the original.

Get Carter (2000) blkthumbsdown

Stallone playing Jack Carter was a mistake. Michael Caine in a cameo was a mistake. Moving the movie from North-east England to Seattle was a mistake. Hell - even the blaxploitation remake "Hitman" with Bernie Casey & Pam Grier was better. Verdict: go to Blockbuster and rent the 1971 original.

Shaft (2000)

Big-budget remake of the 1971 "Blaxploitation" classic, directed by John Singleton, starring Samuel L Jackson  with Richard Roundtree as Samuel L's uncle. Shaft wasn't bad, but the impact of the original just wasn't there.

Ocean's Eleven (2001) blkthumbsup

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, this is another big-budget remake of the 1960 original. However n this case the remake is considered much superior to the earlier version starring the legendary "Rat Pack" cast - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford, etc. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Andy Garcia and Matt Damon head an all-star cast in this heist movie which was so successful that it (unfortunately) spawned Ocean's Twelve.

Planet Of The Apes (2001) blkthumbsdown

Tim Burton's so-called "re-imagining" of the 1968 classic starring Charlton Heston. This version starred Mark Wahlberg who was boring, to say the least. Apparently it was persistent interference from 20th Century Fox execs that muddled Tim Burton's original intentions for this mish-mash.

Solaris (2002) blksnore

After the success of Ocean's Eleven, director Steven Soderbergh and star George Clooney combined again for a remake of Andrei Tarkovsky's three-hour Russian sci-fi epic. Hard to say - audiences voted with their feet and their cash, and stayed away en masse, but I found the original hard going as well.

Italian Job (2003)

This new, unimproved remake, from F. Gary Gray, retains the chase and the Mini Coopers (new models), but little else. It's a mystery why the title was retained since (except for the opening sequence) Italy has almost nothing to do with this movie.

Alfie (2004) blkthumbsdown

What's it all about? No really, what is it all about? This remake was Hollywoodized beyond recognition.
