They need to start showing kung-fu movies like they did back in the day. This year has been very good for films, but usually there's nothing interesting showing at the cinema. When I speak to the older heads they always reminisce about the days when a group of them would go to the cinema on a friday night and watch all the Bruce Lee flicks and other karate flicks and have laughs.
I've got a vast collection at home on vhs and dvd, but nothing beats going to the cinema with a group of your bredrins and catching nuff jokes at all the exaggerated sound effects, cheesy dialogue, terrible acting and bad dubbing!!! Cinemas could just charge £3 a head and make more money but I think this is something that could be done to liven up a quiet evening.

OMG I agree Prince Hakeem I remember days when me and my friends used to just watch Kung fu movies all day I am talking about from morning to night just one after the other we had to throw a dice to determine who was going to get food and drinks. You know I think that if cinemas did that they would find the seats completely full because as much as we love to comment on the cheesiness of the dialogue etc most people like them and the older the better.

Prince Hakeem one of the most important question anybody has raised. Dam true, nothing beat a Kung Fu movie and a cinema full of black folks on a Friday night. Rember watching movies had us in stitches. Fighting start in summer end up in winter all over the place. Thing is, we just watched to see how outrageous things could get.
Someone starting a petiton?

You all are taking me back, LOL!
I remember we would go to this theater in the downtown district and watch Bruce Lee's films as well as the blaxpoloitation ones that had the actor's kung fu fighting. Oh those were the days. You know it was not lost on us, even at such a young age that Bruce was breaking down so many barriers by being not only the star but in control of his own flicks. He was the hero during a time in which heroes of color were few and far between on the big screen...Last edited on Thursday November 27th, 2003 10:19 by Sage

Sis those days were also dangerous because when brothers be leaving the cinema making Bruce Lee noises and flying kicks on man's arse, was no joke.
But what really cracks me now we are reminising, was the numerous times, what we you say people's shoes started to talk, during those kunfu after movie fights, where the leather soles of the shoe came away completely giving the hang dog look, with mouth open. Worse still, I remember a brother called Nicky in a kicking bout, dropped a move some breed of kick; and his shoe flew off and went over a flat roof and we could not find it. It was hilarious.
Yes Ashanti, those were the days. Can't beat a bit of nostalgia.

| I remember a movie theatre in Bristol that use to show kung fu movies all night from 8 o clock at night right up to 8 o clock the following morning and it would only cost you a quid this was back in the early 1980,s around 1982 or 1983 you would,nt see that nowadays .I remember back in my school we use to have a Karate class after lessons and it use to only have about 3 or 4 people turn up but when Bruce Lee came out on the scene with "Enter The Dragon"that karate class would be packed out the following week and usually with the brothas ,as far as i was concerned Bruce Lee was the business and there has,nt been anybody like him since . The only one in my opinion that comes close to Bruce Lee is probably Jet Li .

Maybe the think that there wouldn't be much intrest in them. With films like The Matrix and equilibrium..(watch it for the gun kata) they probably think views want hi-tech fight scenes.
You don't see much snake, crane or drunken boxing in films these days, capoeira has taken over as the moden fight style. It seems like ever fight scene someone bust a capoeira move, but hey, it's looks good on the screen.

| I guarantee nuff people would go to see all the old school flix at the cinema....the atmosphere alone would make it worth going. People still have an appreciation for these films despite all the wires and cgi nonsense of today.

Good business idea... seems there is a market for it, I for one would be up for that.... I love kung fu movies in fact I have a few on DVD (people keep borrowing them and I never see them again though), but I am a bigger fan of the modern kung fu's with the special effects.....
Drunken master was my fav until House of Flying Daggers came along....

Nahhhh, They're good, ok granted the flying thing is a bit naff, but the fighting sequences are brill, what I don't like are the kung fu films set in modern times... I prefer storylines set like a 1000 years ago when they had to rely on pure skill rather than guns and all that mess.
Shaolin temple, ninja etc.... pure loveliness

Morodaba,
I agree. I miss those Bruce Lee, Jim Kelly films. Even with the other Kung-Fu films, I would trip out on them. There was a time where I could wait to see TV on Saturday mornings and evenings because if tt wasn't cartoons that was on , it was those films which I enjoyed.
