Just wanted to know what books you've read that have later been made into a film, and if you think the books have been done justice in the films
I'll start it off:
1.The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J R R Tolkein(fantastic representation of the books, can't wait till the extended versions boxset is released)
2. The Shawshank Redemption by Stephen King(one of the best movies of all time, ranked with the likes of 'The Godfather')
What are yours?

I like to see the "Life of PI" by Yann Martel made in to a film... and if i can choose a black character to play PI, it would be Chris Tucker...
I think the book has alot of potential for a good comedy film... and Chris Tucker would do it justice.

1.The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J R R Tolkein
agreed. the movies are, for me, better in many ways over the books.
mainly cause they cut out all that retarded Tom Bombadil crap. stupidest character evah.

BOOKS TO FILM
BOOK OF EXODUS- made into the TEN COMMMANDMENTS I love Charlton Heston as MOSES.
Colour Purple (ALICE WALKER)- The film is brilliant, but the book is much better.
Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen)- the adaptation with Colin Firth.
AMISTAD (Alexs Pate) - Good film...made me cry
Roots( ALEX Haley)- It was a series, but still very effective
MISERY( Stephen King) - Sledge hammer to the feet OUCH!
Of Mice of Men (John Steinbeck) Lenny....so simple yet so strong.
OLIVER (Charles Dickens).....Classic musical, good book
BOOKS THAT SHOULD BE MADE INTO FILM
Z for Zachariah(Robert O'Brien) - Story about nuclear fall out...very possible in this day and age.
AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MARCUS GARVEY- The film should be called BLACK MOSES, it should be directed by SPIKE LEE (he did such a briliant job with X) and I'm not sure who should play him....MORGAN FREEMAN has the depth, Samuel L Jackson possibly, Danny Glover maybe....any ideas people?

KPAX. Good film, fantastic book.
Anything by Raymond E Feist made into film would destroy Lord Of The Rings quite frankly.
And any Michael Moorcock book should be made into a film. Probably the Elric series. Nevermind the Matrix, his stuff kicks arse.

For width of imagination i.e. Creating a complete new world I as a mere mortal cannot even begin to comprehend how J.R.R.Tolkien had the attributes necessary to write Lord Of The Rings...still 30 years later the greatest Book (The Trilogy) I've ever read. .........Film apparently does it some justice.....Oliver by Dickens was a fantastic Musical back in 1968 (the Ron Moody/Oliver Reed version).........

I saw the Aslan and it looked like dated animatronics but that is cool in a retro way.

I have never yet seem a film that comes close to any book that I love. It always spoils the book for me as the characters in films look nothing like the ones I have imagined. I heard Tom Hanks is going to play Robert Langdon in 'The Da Vinci Code' now, that is just not, how I imagined him to look.

| Would like to see Things Fall Apart made into a movie, perhaps with Djimon Hounsou as Okownkwo.

Books to films, I'd like to see:
Updated versions of Wuthering Heights, Roots, Brave New World, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Anancys' tales.

To me the films can never compete with the books but I haven't read the book "The Last Samurai " but I thought the film was excellent.
I would love to see the following books made into movies
Your Blues Ain't Like Mine
Click to order via Amazon or Barnes and Noble
Paperback: 352 pages
Publisher: Ballantine Books (August 10, 1993)
ISBN: 0345383958
Set in the recent American past, this is a timeless tale of racism, murder, and redemption. A black Chicago-born teen goes Deep South for the summer and is murdered for saying the wrong thing to a white woman. Repercussions are felt by everyone involved, both black and white, for generations.
Brothers and Sisters[highlight= #ffffcc]
[highlight= #ffffcc]Click to order via Amazon or [highlight= #ffffcc]Barnes and Noble
Mass Market Paperback: 544 pages
Publisher: Berkley Publishing Group (September 1, 1995)
ISBN: 0425149404
An eagerly awaited new novel by the author of Your Blues Ain't Like Mine. Campbell's new novel is set in the white-hot center of racially troubled Los Angeles, where African American Esther Jackson has a promising career at a downtown bank. When a new black male vice president's behavior draws a sexual harassment suit, Esther is forced to examine her own loyalties.
I also agree with Ms Nyomie a film on Marcus Garvey I would like to see made and just like we had series on Roots I would like to see "The Destruction of the Black Civilisation" made into a film/series. That way many good black actors/actresses globally could have roles. Often UK talent is overlooked and I would love to see a film where the best globally is represented.

I'll second 'To Kill A Mockingbird,' and with actor, Brock Peters passing away just last week, it's timely.
I was really plugging for Zora Neale Hurston's 'Their Eyes Were Watching God' (made for tv film) to be great. It wasn't great, but it was good.

| Fight club by Chuck Palnuick the book explains alot more than the movie, movie has a better ending though. The books isn't so outward with it's anti-comsumerist views
