I'm sure this will be 100 times better than the lame Freddy vs Jason movie. I go for Predator hands down, but it'll be worth watching this film cos Sanaa Lathan is in it!

Have to agree with your choice...Always thought would not like to be up against the predator...Highly advanced warrior. Whole heap of power and gadgets. But worse that invisability thing....Very very tough to handle that combination.....

Alien got the ability to breed like mad in the most evil fashion imaginable. They would have loads of them like in Alien 2 (one of the best films). They got acid blood and strong exoskeletons and are super ferocius and relentless.
Predator got toys and invisiblity but would get outnumbered and outfought.... If Danny Glover can stand toe to toe with Predator and mash him up then he aint that bad. Sigourney used her brain and stuff, nobody can stand head to head with Alien and win!!!! Its impossible

Gonna be a close ting... Both have their advantages... one on one in a hand t hand fight the Predator would get his arse kicked. But it aint gonna go down like that. Predators have the technology and the intellegence (rather than just 'cunning') plus they aint weak.
If Ripley can kill how many Aliens and it took Arnie or Danny just to off 1 predator - what's that saying?! Plus if it follows the comic, then the Predators breed Aliens just to hunt! So they have experience.
I reckon I'd go for the Predators unless they get overrun by nuff Aliens.
What will be interesting is if a Predator gets impregnated.... I wanna see those baby pictures....

If you've seen the comics then you would most likely know the outcome of these animals battling it out.
The Predator armour is acid resistant, same with the weapons they use, it was specifically designed to combat Aliens with. To be honest I prefer the comics more, since they take it a little deeper than the movies.
It's said that they created the Aliens to create the ultimate hunt, which brings you to the film Alien and the derelict ship.

know a bit about the comics... but not the outcome. Where did you get that image BTW??
I often think the comics are better and not well reflected in films. Check out Spiderman 2 tho if you aint yet... much better (truer to the comic) than the first one IMO.

Kunjufu fair and good points. Also read DM's post who stressed the fact that Aliens can multiply..Had to take a couple of days to reflect on this and consult the authorities.
Key strengths of Alien summarised
1. Reproductive capacticity
2. Internal construction and design and capability
3. Stealth capacity.
4. Ferocity..
I had to consult the sages of warfare on this one..Von Moltke, Sun Tzu, Claustwich and Shaka and Napoleon.
My conclusions are thus. The techncial design of each contender eliminates each other with the exception of the superior and purpose designn advanced weaponry of the Predator. Infra red vision ain't a minor advantage.
However my concern would be on the breeding capacity of the Alien. The ability to utilise superior numbers whether in mass or to deploy organsised superior force in a selective and tactical manner on an enemy's weak point is a very considerable advantage and is fundamental principle of success in war.
However......the cardinal and overiding principle is strategic advantage of suprise and the ability to pre-empt and take military initiative,forcing the adversary on the defensive and in the words of Von Moltke fight an offensive war, which is the most superior form of war fare, as opposed to fighting a a defensive one.
On that basis, taking into considerations the Predators infra red vision and invisibility. Your boys are stuffed. Nevermind if he unleashed some of them bombs and rockets on thier arse. Remember S Weaver blew the sods up in the first movie, so my man can drop rockets on them and they can't even seee him nonetheless.
Predence and military orthodoxy tell me. Aliens going to get stuffedNot difficult to work out really.

Just replying to something Fred said.
Aliens can actually see Predators that use stealth systems, since they don't have eyes, they use special internal senses.
But you're totally correct. In an all out war the Predators win hands down. But in a hunters environment that these Predators actually create, things are much different.

The ultimate battle is upon us. Alien vs. Predator.
For ages, fans have waited for the war of the monsters to happen on screen, with the “Alien vs. Predator� idea already surfacing in the form of comic books, video games, and even toys. “Alien vs. Predator� stars Sanaa Lathan as explorer and adventurer Alexa “Lex� Woods, who leads an expedition through the cold depths of Antarctica. Little does she know, however, that her team will be caught in an epic war between two supernatural species, where the ultimate winner becomes man’s ultimate enemy.
Sanaa was in New York City recently to talk about the picture and below is what she had to say. “Alien vs. Predator� is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and co-stars Lance Henriksen and Raoul Bova.
Q: Sanaa, now that you’ve done this, do you see yourself wanting to do more action films?
SANAA: For me, it’s more the role. I love acting and I love the challenge of acting. I like a developed character. If it comes in the package of an action film, then so be it, it would be great.
Q: Have you seen your action figure yet?
SANAA: I saw my action figure. I saw a mock-up of it. If you're going to have an action figure, you're going to have to make her...I'm a Virgo, so I'm a real perfectionist and anal. I'm like, "That's not what my hair looks like!"
Q: So did you go back and watch any of the Alien or Predator movies to prepare yourself for this film?
SANAA: I got the part at the last minute. I auditioned, and then the next week, I had to be in Prague shooting. So I didn't get to see the movies. I had seen a couple of the "Alien" films when I was younger, but I didn't get to see "Predator" until halfway through shooting. It was great to get an education while I was shooting because it made me excited to be part of this legacy.
Q: Why was it last minute?
SANAA: I don't know. [Writer/director] Paul Anderson auditioned every up and coming actress in the world. Apparently, I wasn't even up for it. Someone told me that someone involved had just seen "Out of Time" and that that's how I got the audition. I got the call on a Friday, and I will never forget this, I was feeling sick because I just got off the press tour for "Out of Time" and my agent called me on a Friday to tell me that I had an audition the next day. I told him I didn't want to do it and I don't want to do an audition on Saturday. He told me it was last minute and they have a girl that they screen tested, but they were not sure about. I didn't even have time to read the script. Sometimes, when you don't care, people are attracted to that. If I had time to get all nervous about this I might have brought that with me. Literally four days [later], I was going to Prague.
Q: How much of the monsters were CGI and how much of them were robotic?
SANAA: One of the things that Paul prides himself on is that everything isn't CGI. He did a lot of scenes with me and the actual creature in the room with me. I think that makes for a scarier end product because I think the audience can tell when it's computer generated. There were a lot of times when I was working with Tom Woodruff, who was in the Alien suit and had been for all the movies. For the Predator, we had a seven-foot-four ex-basketball player in the suit.
Q: Did you feel like you were filling in Sigourney Weaver's shoes?
SANAA: I'm not filling her shoes. I'm just doing a part that has the same monsters, but it's a completely different movie and a completely different character.
Q: Do you like watching these movies?
SANAA: I'm just a wimp when it comes to scary movies. I'm the kind of person that will be up all night wondering what's in my apartment.
Q: So will you have any trouble watching "Alien vs. Predator"?
SANAA: I saw it last week and I did [have trouble]. When you're on a set, it can be very tedious and slow. It's just not as big as when you see it on film. The action is so intense and scary. I realized when I was watching it that it wasn't my type of movie.
Q: Which do you find more impressive: The Alien or the Predator?
SANAA: I think the creators of both of those were real geniuses. No matter how long I was on the set, I never got used to seeing either of them. When the Predator would walk around the corner, even on the last day of shooting, it's just scary. The Alien is just gross, scary, and they were just genius in making them because there is something in a human being that looks at them and sees it as a cockroach. You can never feel nurturing towards the cockroach.
Q: How was your experience at San Diego's Comic Con?
SANAA: It was a trip. At the end of the day they told me I had a panel to do. I thought it would be a room with about a 100 people in it. They had 6,000 people! I said, "Why didn't you prepare me for this?!"
Q: Both franchises have very fervent fans and so are you prepared to deal with that kind of attention?
SANAA: My friend said to me, when I finished doing the movie and I came back to New York, “Sanaa, you have a 10,000 foot tidal wave, out at a distance, coming at you.� That's an awful image. I don't know if I'm prepared. I just hope that people like the movie.
Q: What superhero power would you want to have?
SANAA: I always say that I wish had the ability to have that genie thing and then be in bed. Maybe I would like to fly.
"Alien vs. Predator" opens in theaters August 13th.

Update...'Alien Vs. Predator' Smacks Down Rivals

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Movie-goers were easy prey for a double dose of space invaders. The sci-fi smackdown "Alien vs. Predator," featuring the creatures of the "Alien" and "Predator" franchises, debuted as the No. 1 weekend movie with $38.25 million, studio estimates showed Sunday.
"Alien vs. Predator," featuring Sanaa Lathan and "Aliens" and "Alien 3" co-star Lance Henriksen, centers on a human expedition that stumbles on a space-monster blood feud in an ancient pyramid buried below Antarctica.
The movie debuted slightly ahead of the $36.4 million debut of last summer's horror hybrid "Freddy vs. Jason," which paired the slashers of the "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchises.
"This continues the trend of combining franchises to very strong box-office results," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations. "If you're a fan of the 'Alien' movies, you want to see this movie. If you're a fan of 'Predator," you want to see this movie."
