This thread is inspired by the 'Blood Diamond' and 'King of Scotland' threads were a few posters have raised the point that Africans should be involved in making more films for and about themselves if they want to see a less Eurocentric version of themselves on the bigscreen.
Curzon cinemas have a theme in February and March called 'Africa on Screen' where they are showing films made by African directors about various African societies. I will certainly try to go and see a few this month and next month.
One film that I will most definately try to see is 'Bamako' showing from 23rd February. Here is a short synopsis from the Curzon website:
"...In a poor area of Bamako, a court has been set up in the yard of a house. On trial are the World Bank and the IMF, who are facing proceedings brought against them by African civil society for their disastrous policies that have brought most African countries...."
