| Eddy Murphy is facking brilliant in this, so too Jennifer Hudson - everything else is wet wet wet. Its about 30 minutes too long, the scrpit is awful, production values cheap to middling, its as if they decided to film a cabaret act. Seriously, I wanted my money back. Was there a film so unfairly hyped? Last edited on Saturday February 3rd, 2007 17:12 by check_check

NOT being rude
but a "friend" suggested, maybe nest time download a hyped film...judge for yourself
if its brilliant, grab some girlfriends and watch it a second time (sponsoring it)
and watch it on a bigger screen with dolby surround sound..(shud be even better)
and you might catch bits you missed before!
just a suggestion
if its crap now...just deleate the file..thus saving you the over priced cinema prices.
just a suggestion from ....an anoymous source

Hey CQ long time eh?
downloading dreamgirls is problematic since the producers flooded the net with so many fake copies that stop at 92% or something and all the china man road copies i seen are very poor.

| I thought it was really good actually, Beyonce wasn't awful but I stil think she should stick to singing, don't think acting is her forte. Jennifer hudson was amazing. i know that Beyonce is the international superstar etc but I really think that she should have been recognised as the lead actress because her part was much bigger and her acting was much better. I'd deffinatly get the soundtrack for her voice alone.

Ha Ha,
I took a roll of the dice and brought Dream girls and Blood diamonds from a Coolie/ opps! an oriental in a car park
dream girls was a good quality one and Blood Diamonds filmed in a Cinema although nobody stood up half way through. Not bad for £4.00

Lol, everyone at my cinema felt it necessary to clap everytime someone sang a damn song (except when beyonce sang listen... about 6 people clapped then lol), and at the end of the film. I swear, only black folk clap at a damn cinema!

This is so suprising because I thought the clapping thing would only go down in the states so it's good to hear folks are doing it here too ! I heared Jennifer hudson is brilliant in this film and will move u with her voice. Specially singing 'I am telling you' . I want to see this now... Jennifer has been winning mad awards for this film

What a coincidence. Mine is doing exactly the same. I watched the Disney Movies channel with the little ones, but I fell asleep. I'm afraid I am not very good at sitting in one place for too long doing nothing.

Well my good lady saw this last night, and I had to endure her and her cousin going on about how good it was and how Jennifer had it locked down with her performance and top class singing. Furthermore, she says she is taking me to see it at the end of this week (I dare not resist), so I guess I will get to see for myself what all the hype is about.

Musically speaking, its entertaining in parts, overdone in others; don't look for a strong plot or depth of characterisation. One to go the Korean route for (managed to get a decent copy)...
Jennifer Hudson outsings everyone, though I'm wondering what material would do her voice justice - only singer I've heard get close power and range wise is Rachelle Ferrell.....Beyonce invisible singing- and acting-wise by comparison, though the camera loves her.......I'd judge Jennifer's acting talent when she's played a role or two where she is not required to sing. Definitely something there to develop, though...

| I watched that movie again this week..well 3/4 and then gave up. Ouside of Eddie's wicked performance and Jenni Hudson who looks like a young Aretha Franklin. I just dont get it. Its like a 1970s BBC TV prog.Low production values, grainy visuals, really naff sets.

I saw it last night and I have to say, I actually enjoyed it very much. I give props to both Beyonce and Jennifer for their performances, though I have to say Jennifer stole the show for me.
Anyone going to see this should really look at it more as a stage musical put to film, than a 'movie' as such. I can't see how it can be presented as anything else.
Done as an actual stage show I think it would be brilliant as the live stage would I feel be a far better medium for it, though that doesn't take away the film being very entertaining and enjoyable.
As for the hype?
Well, I have yet to see any film (the Matrix excepted possibly) which lives up to its hyped. In fact hype is usually my reason for not seeing a film. But all the hype surrounding this film didn't cause me to be dissapointed from seeing it.
An excellent 'filmed' stage musical with good performances all round. One for the ladies to enjoy and for the guys to enjoy with their ladies.....not a movie I would recommend for a 'boys night out'...lol

Yeah a lot of people who see this film dont realize that its based on a Broadway musical from like 22 years ago, which was so popular you literally had to sell your soul to the devil to get tickets.
It also made Jennifer Holliday a HUGE star, she was on the cover of Time magazine and everything, then she kinda disappeared into obscurity, pops up again when she's had some sort of huge weight loss or something...this might be Jennifer Mark 2's fate as there aren't that many roles fro plump Black singers with kick ass voices,Oscar or no Oscar.
The problem with the film is that they dont establish early enough that they are going to do it in a musical stylee,so when the song/talk does happen it seems awkward.
I thought Eddie was good,so was Beyonce her acting certainly has improved since Austin Powers,Hudson of course was off the chain vocally, her acting was alright...not mind-blowing.
The person I saw it with wasnt aware of the history of Dreamgirls and I had to explain the whole loosely based on the Supremes premise...and other bits and pieces like that Jackson 5 look-likey group, when "Micheal" is hanging outside Beyonces door, thats what Micheal did with Diana..and Murphys role is an amalgam of Marvin Gaye,, and other crooners of the time who Berry Gordy had a strangle-hold on,...with a dash of James Brown on the side.

My sis said when she went cinema Jennifer Hudson got a standing ovation for her song. The film is alright, caught a few laughs, glad I only spent a fiver for the ticket and bought £1.49 bag of popcorn from blockbusters.
