Has anyone on the other side of the Pond seen or heard about this Man
Chris Gardner ?
He seems like the perfect mentor an inspiration. Has anyone seen the film about him starring Will Smith ?

I went to see this movie last night, and came away with 3 things:
1. A renewed respect for Will Smith as an actor (I thought he did a marvelous job of Ali as well).
2. Amazement at his young son who had to be in almost every frame of the movie.
3. Last but not least, an appreciation of how blessed I am, and a renewed spirit to do SOMETHING to help the homeless.
As a side.....I could not help but wish that we as Black women could do a better job of being supportive and holding tight to those vows "for better or worse." WOnder how sister girl feels now? Just wondering.
I give this movie 5 stars easily .

Misti women are not what they used to be. I mean think about all of the women here that leave their kids in the car in the middle of summer to go into the mall.

I know I am only looking at one side of it. But she kicked that man when he was down in every way possible, then handed him his balls on a platter.
I would give anything to know where she is now and what she thinks. And I'd bet my last dime that he has helped her out some since he got rich.

I don't think he did. I think he left it how it was unless it benefited his son in some type of way.

Top Film: Indeed very inspirational.A lbeit exaggerated in typical Hollywood style
Here is a link about the man himself.
More useful postive tales like this abound within the black community of black male role models. Problem is most do not make any noise about it.
In this context i am refering to black men who have gone from rags to riches purely through slugging it out the hard way. (New Money)

Man I was serious when I said this. We have sooo many women that kill their kids like this every year it is ridiculous. The kids literally die of heat stroke after being left in a car with no air on a 100 degree day with the windows rolled up.
Misti knows when I speak this of Memphis, I am telling the truth. It has gotten so bad that they start to warn against this on the news months before the summer season.
Only when they started to actually convict women of murder did they start to take it seriously, but still we have at least 3-5 a summer.
Women in this city seem to have lost their damned minds. They are about as worse as the guys now. You could in the past depend on the women in this city to be the sensible ones, but that is just gone except the ones that are from the old school or had parents that raised them old school style.

Didn't like the film. It made it seem like happiness is all about getting a job. I think I was happier in life when I was broke in the hood. It is all about perspective.

I disagree @ Shem.. Happiness is pursuing your dream/your desire..whatever it may be.. and he did just that!!
I have a boy aged 9 and CANNOT imagine ever being in that position EVER!! The real Chris Gardner is to be commended for having such courage in the face of such adveristy.. I don't care what no-one says... he is a Don!!
Did you know he went on to give others the same opportunities...
I'll say it again .. he is Don!

Maybe true...but when there is a child to consider and you want a better life for him and to provide for him...how could he be happy with no home etc. I think it's not just about money. It's about being able to provide comfortably for those who do make you happy.

I hear what you guys are saying. I just didn't like the plot of the movie with the title, "Pursuit of Happiness". I went into it expecting something totally different. I mean, Chris Gardner is certainly a commendable man, I am only talking about the movie being a "pursuit of happiness" and it seemed to portray a message that happyness was in a job. I probably wouldn't have the same reaction to the movie if it was titled differently.

| He was on This Morning and as they introduced him they mentioned he was raped as a teenager. I wondered why they mentioned it. I didn't see any point. They also talked a little about his book of the same name. Then they brought out Thandie Newton who plays the role of C.G's wife.
