I know a couple of people wanted to see this film - I saw the trailer and thought that this would be some half hearted Save the last dance wannabe without the black lead. On viewing it I would say the film to an extent confirms my opinion.

The main plot is simple, white guy from a rough neighbourhood who can street dance really well (they got the dancing locked) gets into trouble and ends up doing community service at the scene of the crime ...an exclusive arts school. He gets spotted dancing on his break by a girl who has this "big performance" coming up which should open the career door. The main dancer for the production gets injured and guess who is the only option to help out.

There's a couple of side stories like the obligatory love story between the two leads for the film. Mario is ever present for the film in his role as the producer of the track that the main dance piece is to.

The film in a way feels rushed and at times lacks any sense of direction- you know whats going to happen but the scenes are all too familiar and times they felt stilted. I never thought I'd say this but I liked the way they cast the extras...the script was very, very simple. The  female lead ticked all the right boxes in my book and the choreography I'd say was much tighter than in STLD but thats about it. Several films of this genre have been panned as nothing more than extended music videos - this one proves the other point that choreographers need up their game if they want to be taken seriously as film directors.

If you like films that involve street/hip hop dance as the centre piece then you may as well place this one somewhere near bottom end of your top 10  below you got served, beat street and breakdance 1 & 2.  Even those I have on DVD so don't go breaking your bank to watch this on big screen.
