I just watched Dirty starring Cuba Gooding Junior and 90% of the film is a big Training Day ripoff and not nearly as good! CGJ's character was just an Alonzo wannabe and the dialogue in the film is pretty much the same.

What isn't a ripoff these days, boo?

They have remade every 70s TV show and movie and now they are working on the 80s... (oh yeah, and the Wicker Man remake)

Training Day is only a few years old!

WTF? Has Hollywood dried up?

ps-  They still have to remake Dolemite, Blacula, JD's Revenge, Cotton comes to Harlem and Which way is up?... watch this space.

But I'm talking about films that pretend to be original yet blatantly steal from other movies in terms of dialogue, plot etc.

Remakes are totally different (not to mention pointless).

I mention remakes because it's all about recycled ideas.  We're at a point where they hardly pretend the idea is unique.

There is a film coming out and it blatantly stealing from Como agua para chocolate aka Like Water For Chocolate (one of my favourite films). Where the woman's emotions-at the time of cooking-affect anyone who eats her food.

Anybody know the name of this new film?confused3

The Mummy 'trilogy', 'King Solomons Mines', 'Romancing the Stone' & 'The Jewel of the Nile' are all knockoffs of 'Raiders of the lost Ark', which are based on 1940's serial styled adventures.

the cheekiest was Guess Who with Berney Mack and Ashton Kutcher not just the same concept but exact same storyline and scene order and gags as Meet The Parents with Ben Stiller and Bob De Niro.

was a good film though but i hate the spinoff being so obvious

Sorry but I've got to disagree with the choice thus far....by far the worse rip off merchant has to be VAN HELSING......it ripped off the following films blantantly:

1. In the name of the rose...(the Monk sidekick)

2. James Bond..(again the sidekick who is a bit of a bod making gadgets).

3. Any Hammer Horror Flick....the way it was filmed and the film shots were very copycat..in particular the coach and horses scene was a total rip off...of Dracula flicks..

4. Frankenstein....gosh just choose any film to see the number of rip off's..

5. The good, the Bad and the Ugly..(oh yes even this film got ripped off... if you watch the film near the end, the heroine kills the baddy..and utters the immortal line.. if you're gotta kill, kill and don't talk....a direct QUOTE from the aforementioned film...

Moro Naba,

Waterworld has to be the biggest ripoff of the century. The ironic thing is that the people who made the film felt the same way paying 132,000,000 million dollars for a major flop. I also thought that the Blair Witch project sucked. Although I didn't think that V for Vendetta was a bad movie, it could have been a little better.

Hey! I liked that film, it was a bit MadMax on water but I like the whole other worldly apocolypse type thing. Film was cool.

V for Vendetta was TERRIBLE

Again; I liked that film, its based off the comic and is supposed to be cheesy serves as a good warning to the public about the news and all that. Films like that kinda wake people up to reality,

"What would you do if you knew your government was responcible for the deaths of 100,000 people!?"

Ring any bells? Its a much higher figure than that .lol. THe only bad thing about it was that the character ''V'' is played by the Agent Smith guy from Matrix. Thats lame. Other than that its a fact in fiction film, both are in a way, waterworld being a global warming senario.

Can't be cussing my films ()

Oh yeah Ghost in the shell kicks matrix ass any day, the new ones are a bit lame, diffrent animation but yeah, M@L said it all.

Why do you think its rubbish, they've taken a lot from that film... and Akira. The Japs don't just make films like hollywood do its all philosophy and seriously heavy, camera angles, animation and plot.

You're not African if you think Ghost in the Shell is rubbish.

.lol.

Kunjufu,

Wasn't exactly a million dollar blockbuster. Though I thought it was ok, I almost did the same thing that you did. The onlo difference was that I managed to keep awake.

Ghost in the Shell was just a disappointment imo. The concept of the story was good but there was too much psycho babble and the action was few and far between.

If you wanna mention classic Anime then ninja Scroll, Akira, Cowboy Bebop and even Perfect Blue should be on your list!

Ninja scroll was good. A bit too western.

Akira was alright, have to stop smoking weed and watching films.

Perfect Blue is the don. Classic thriller in anime, one of my favorites.

Not sure about cow boy bebop haven't seen it but it sounds lame.

Others = Blood the last vampire - Neon Evangelist... can't rember the rest, coming down with the flu. Got a collection... Ghost in the shell is a classic, the psyco babble is more or less the matrix plot is a bit much though can see your point. A lot of anime has philosophy behind it, thats what makes them diffrent from bog standard cartoons... depth. Can't cuss Ghost, the second one is a bit lame slightly diffrent drawings.

I haven't even seen the second one since the first was wack to me, however Bebop is a lot better than how it sounds. The Street Fighter series isn't bad either.

Gave me the impression of anime cow boys spinning on their backs and doing the robot to a Grandmaster flash backing. I'll check it out though.

The Spawn series kick ass... haven't seen the street fighter ones. You gotta get Blood the last vampire its topa topa.

Since Tolkien more or less popularised (not originated) the genre into the mainstream most of the other sieres out there will LOOK like clones even if they aren't.

The Eragon books are far superior to LOTR (most fantasy is tbh) but the movie trailers I've seen look very childish and stupid.  I would be upset frankly if they made any of the big fantasy sagas I like into movies because they'd inevitably be stupid.

LOTR was an exception that amazingly made a dull and dire set of poorly written books into a great movie.  Because it made big money, movie makers will be looking for more FORUMLA hits to churn out slapdash and make a quick buck.  Eragon looks shoddy to me but that doesn't mean the Eragon books themselves are clones of Tolkiens...

IA was a good movie.

Departed was going to be a great movie, could have been a classic film until the last 10 minutes.  It ended so poorly I was vexed.
