Ive seen two of his movies: Diary of an Angry Black woman and Medea Family reunion. While the Medea was not all that great. His movies are no where near coonish compared to some of the other black films out there in fact some of his movies of some of the first quality black films I have seen in a while.  His movies are a mix of romance while at the same time addressing real life issues in the black community.

Hated the over the top Madea character, spolied 'Diary' for me.  Film would have been much better wiothout her stereotypical rantings. And why does he have to resort to cross dressing?

It seems like he's reinforcing stereotypes about black women like the fat, fast, sassy black woman and the angry black woman on revenge.

No I dont think he does that at all. Look at his woman characters from Medea an Diary. Each woman is a complacent, nice and sweet while the men in their lives are busy screwing them over and doing them harm. They see this and are still obedient and nice. He shows how each of these woman then get the strength to say 'enough' and transform into different people. They get some backbone to stand up to the men in their lives and find new ones.

BBC

are you aware that his films are based on his traveling plays?

the titles of those plays are always something to that effect.....that cuts to the core of what the play is about.....

I'm not a fan of those plays in general or of madea...and tyler perry....

Yes I am aware of that.  Judging by the preview of his plays looks really low rate to me.

 Still doesn't change my mind.

Me either and I doubt I will be.

BBC,

Tyler Perry can do drama and comedy. I remembered looking at both of his films. Everytime I seen both of them it just made me react in some way. Like with his first film, and at the begining of it, I found myself just wanting to hit the man with a brick. It was like I was feeling that womans pain and it just seemed so life like. I also felt the same with his second film, the one with Blair Underwood in it. Wow, I'm always stunned at Blair playing ruthless. I've always seen him as laid back.  Far a Tyler, that Medea is something else. He is really funny.

Isn't Madea a rip off of Big Momma?

That character has been done to death in American films, i for one am sick of it. And the hard done by black women role, we ain't all that dumb, or weak!

Tyler needs to be more creative, and NO he is not funny!

I'm not a fan of his plays or movies, but you have to respect the ninche he's carved for himself. He is presently putting out a tv show called"House of Payne" or something to that effect totally outside the Hollywood system.

That's my point.  I'm sick of the same comedy formula and the "big ghetto/country momma" routines.  It's been beaten like a dead horse.

I find all Perry's plays to be enjoyable with some parts being hillarious and his films are just as good. Stereotypical or not Madeas character is funny.
