We would probably cry racism if Whites painted themselves in black paint in a movie to successfully pass as Black...not matter the scenario. I think we all remember or know of images like these...
...or how about the cannibal black baby...
...or to sell a product...
How is the White Chicks film any different...
What would happen if Whites start making movies about Blacks with Whites in black makeup??!! Again???!!
Would they be justified in doing so now???

I expect the film to be a flop anyway (unless loads of white people go to see it), so what the heck. Can't think why a black person would want to see it. Hell, we see enough white, blonds as it is, without paying money to see blacks dressed up as white blonds...

this must be an OLD thread..the film is mad old...
wayans brothers will do ANYTHING for a laugh....ANYTHING....
to answer the question....it's not the same as blackface minstrel routines where the white actors would speak broken english.....eat watermelon..and act out every steretype of Black men....
it's not even close...
for the record though.....films with white characters...passing as "Black" as part of the plot include
Trading Places(Akkroyd), Silver Streak(gene wilder), Soul-man(Howell)....etc...... plot devices.....

Yeah they did, they had really poor "jamaican/west-indian" accents. If anyone used to watch the league of gentlemen a black comedy programme there was a character who had black face think the name was papa lazarou?? and he would shout "dave".

Ok wasnt sure about that cos I used to watch it and thought it was funny till I thought aah maybe he trying to do the minstrel thing, but I didnt think it was jibe at black people cos those vibes werent coming across and I think their
humour is very clever. Not immature ie ant and dec dressing up as westindian women with stupid accents lowest denominator no intelligence whatsoever whereas league of gentleman was.

I agree with lilsoulful its a kinda silly question, the fact is an 80's movie like Soulman (from memory a white boy blacked up using tanning pills I think to get some kind of 'black'scholarship) had a virtually identical plot idea to White Chicks and to my memory "we" didnt cry racism.
Whites have a 100 year plus history of "blacking up" a dumb Wayans movie does not represent a shift in the other direction.

Some of you seem to think that I am suggesting the 100's of years of White racism is being over-turned by this one movie. What I think we should think about is whether we should reciprocate or mimic all of White people's behavior. I think it was incredibly stupid for Whites to put themselves in black-face to characterize Blacks; however, when Blacks do the opposite to characterize Whites, then what does that say about us?

Complete crap.
You're right Toth, it is the same, exactly the same and I'm surprised it wasn't cussed in the media. Theres no diffrence between two black people dressing up like white women, playing typical white sterotypes than two white guys dressing up like black women and playing the black sterotype... the only barrier preventing an all out white cry is prehaps the gender bending, making the actors look like fools more than anyone... if it was black/white male acting as a black/white male it'd be worse.
Film was pathetic... I'm sorry to ask here but what is it with America and the racial movies thing? Its not the same elsewhere, every comedy has to be racially orientated with movies like 'Big Mommas house' etc etc... pure sterotype. Is it down to the mega diffrence between white USA and Black USA or something?

Why don't you tell us!!...... we are just simply playing them at their own game...just think back to the time when whites were portraying blacks as golliwogs and really animating and exaggerating our features as ugly gorillas..did we have our say?? did we shout out racism at the drop of a hat?? NO! you know why?.. we did'nt have a voice back then..but we are sure starting to get our voice back now...
And if you think we are stooping our selves to the white man level..Like they say... it's only a laugh init!!!

| Please, white people have not stopped making films that poke fun at blacks. Have any of you seen "My Boss' Daughter"? That film does nothing but make fun of black males and their so called penchant for white pum pum. White people have just taken their bullsh*t underground, they haven't stopped. And what about all of those racist films that they refuse to stop considering as "classics"? Black Americans are just getting theirs, and frankly, I don't care. We'll stop when they stop. And if it's stooping to their level, then oh well.

| Actually I think the author of this thread makes a valid point, I think the Wayans did and have opened a NEW can of worms with that film...and I'd even go further and say that they almost made it acceptable to lampoon cultures via the use of inappropriate charactures.
