Anyone here viewed the show called "Black.White."? It's a pretty controversial series where a black and white family switch melanin levels. The show is pretty much a social experiment. If you check out the website you'll see the families and video footage. The daughter named Rose looks like she just flew in from Addis Abba when they painted her black, it says a lot about what race really is.

And what is this ?
What a load of BS.
It's embarrassing when black people try so hard to get certain other people to see that we are the same as them or that we could even be them. For me it hides the fact that some black people are uncomfortable with being black and so want to illustrate that its no so far from getting to be white so that they can prove to others certain actions they may decide to take or just
And the subject that the program has thrown up can never be dealt with in the manner it attempts. The foolishness of it all goes to prove this. Peoples minds will have to make major jumps in logic to follow what the program wants people to adopt mentality. You can't just cut across history, heritage, culture etc as simply as that. It just doesn't go. Some things are just as is, awkward and almost law.
When will certain people realise that instead of trying to appease everyone else but ourselves and following all these horrid, superficial, ''quick fix'' ideas we need to face ourselves, accept ourselves, do some major work to build and do for ourselves ?
Some white people must be rolling on the floor and grinning to realise that we are still not at ease with who we are. It's no wonder its been given such a high media profile because it keeps us down and prevents the perspective on just being us, our own selves, our own problems, our own mission to do just for ourselves, to grow, to build collective power. It keeps us bound to them, to trying to be like them, like we still serving them.
And why is it black and white. I hate the opposition of it. Tying ourselves to that whole dichotomy just means that we'll always be tied in some battle, comparison, measuring against with white people. I'm sick of it. We should probably refer to ourselves only as Africans, African Americans, Afro Caribbeans etc and get rid of this 'black' tag. Why does the black girl in Ice Cube's video need to hold a white boys hand. Why not a Chinese boy, an Indian boy, a green boy, a black boy ? Will it in some way make everything better or is holding a white boys hand a step to heaven or something ? I've never held a white girls hand although I've spent most of my life around white people because of the school and uni I went to so does that make me a bad person ? Does that mean I've missed out on something ?
WHY DO WE STILL SEE THE RIGHT JUST TO ''BE'', TO EXIST AS GETTING AS CLOSE TO WHITENESS (WHAT IT REPRESENTS, WESTERN/EUROPEAN CIVILIZATION) AS POSSIBLE OR INVOLVING OURSELVES WITH IT ?
It seems as if we've been on an eternal mission to become with and reject our blackness.
This thing is really pi**ing me off to the highest because its so foolish yet I know certain peoples minds will swallow it gladly so that they can go out there and do what I consider to be horrid things. The d@*n f**ls !

East: Well said....can i also add that the obvious flaw in this social experient is simply this...whilst your colouring the outside of the person...you cannot change the mind of the person..therefore a White man paited black will stil;l think and behave like a White man..
The whole experience of being black is also about the socialisation from birth..that cannot be replicated by just colouring someone's skin..this is where programmes like this belittle and minimises the black experience..

Seems like you're ranting...are you ranting? More importantly, have you viewed the show? On the show there isn't any black people attempting to get anyone to see that everyone is "the same". A lot of white people want to assume that it is, but even they know that it isn't. The only black people that are uncomfortable with being black are the ones who don't realize the true blessing of being black.

Most black people won't realize that until it is time for them to realize that, if it is time for each individual black person to know, but the truth is that every last black person won't know, but a chosen few will. About doing for ourselves, do you(East) understand what exactly it will take for black people to do for themselves? That it will take a process that we as a people have not known for decades upon decades and that it at this point it is not even visible to the average black man, woman or child?

From what the show has shown and from the messageboard, actually some whites view the show as racist, but be it that or not it is a medium for the truth and that's what I have been knowing for some time now. Although black people don't know their truth identity, black people as a whole have collected bits and pieces to form an identity that it unfortuately still at the wim of mass-media in general. I'll ask you this, do you really want to know what will build true collective power for black people that no man or men could possibly take away? That same power that will utimately free those who know from serving them?

"Probably" still has its uncertainty as to what "seems reasonably true, factual, or to be expected". Most black people can't even wrap their brains around to what only seems as a possibility, but a very elusive and vaguely documented actuality that the continents were linked at some point, yet alone the fact that Africa, Europe, America, Asia are all english-based names...wouldn't you think the inhabitants of these lands had names for themselves? It's very much like how Columbus came to "America" and dubbed the Indians, Indians, don't you think they had names for themselves as a collective identity? Are you following me?

You know that on biological principle that is backward? No one that was conscious would know that though.

That is the whole point of the system, but why assimilate to not having an identity when the same people that want us to give up our identity, desires our identity!! Really illogically don't you think?

Just in case you are ranting (I won't assume), go head and get it out. I would like to discuss some of the things I have written to you. I would like see if there are more people here that can really use the brain power of perception that we have been gifted with.

That obvious and simple flaw will show that being black or white isn't as "black and white" as some perceive it to be. That is the point of the show. Most people have not grasped that because its it not explicitly said, but shown and its only a matter of decoding that to understand the deeper meaning and purpose of this show.

Of course. How can one go from not being conscious about self-identity for over 2/3rds of a lifetime to being completely aware of it? One wouldn't even know what to look for...but I can tell you that from what I have seen so far on the show and by what I know, a white person could learn a heck of a lot more about the black experience in six weeks than from assumption held over a lifetime; that is only a matter of open-mindedness. It really doesn't matter as much if they ever do understand, what matters most if that black people understand the complete truth about themselves and their heritage, not only what history nick-picks, I speak of the chronology that history has overlooked.

Please watch the episode at least twice, so we can have an intelligent discussion without our emotions getting in the way...those Kanye West threads were enough to prove that point.
