I've always had an interest in the Geisha culture, and I read the book a few years about but haven't seen the film. I plan to see it soon though.

I HATED it simply because I read the book. I recomend everyone to read the book first then see the movie. The movie won't help you get over thinking they are high class prostitutes which they are not. The book goes into more detail so your'll learn more about their culture. And you'll see that some of the characters are actually closer to each other then they were in the movie. They made it seem like Chiyo was kidnapped but she wasn't. And Hatsumomo was alot more evil in the book. That b**ch was crazy. READ THE BOOK.

I read the book and loved it and yes Hatsumomo was a jealous b***h in the book.  I am wary of watching the film simply because the book is so good.  Will wait for it to come out on dvd as |I have heard mixed reviews.  I think the people who have read the book were slightly disappointed whilst those who hadn't loved it.

I agree, I also read the book.  I'm going to watch this at the cinema just to take in the art direction. If you've seen Hero you'll know what I mean.
