I want to know if it is worth seeing the new King Kong flick.  I just wasn't moved by some jurassic gorilla falling in love with a blond White woman.

Do you think Hollywood is getting carried away with these remakes?

KING KONG

hmmmm - first of all the portrayal of the the gorilla was actually excellent!

My MAIN PROBLEM with that foolish film, was the black savages. I actually couldn't believe that after all that we have been through with representation of black people on screen this useless director decided to include the black savages from the original in the 30's.

This is the same director who had the most evil nasty characters looking decidely like black men with dreads in lord of the rings!

I don't like peter jackson one bit.

I'm just glad this movie isn't doing nearly as well as they expected it to. Everyone who's seen it has told me it's crap anyway.

Narnia was a bad film... I enjoyed that.  The white queen is up there on my favourite baddie list for the way she had one liners and the way she rocked a spear and a sword simultaneously.  Lucy was a good little actress and I reckon she will be a bigger star than big eyes Dakota Fanning.

Thanks Kunjufu...I am sad I missed all the threads on the Ligali Forum while Blacknet was down.  From what I have read, I am definitely not seeing that movie now...or perhaps I will download it from the Internet to see the Black savages.

I'm not familiar with the Narnia chronicles but ive always thought there were some sexual connotations to do with kids going though a wardrobe full of fur.

The imagery is quite vivid.

LOL JB

Nah MBD there were too many funny lines.  I got a friend from NW and the beaver was trying to convince the family to fight, Susan says "But we're not heroes, we're from Finchley!"
I was dying...

LMAO MBD that bit was funny. The whole cinema was laughing. I took my neices and nephew to see Narnia and I loved is just as much as they did. I love fantasy films. Apparently they might be making more Narina chronicles into films...hmmm think it's time for anothe round of book buying for me.

Also, I really liked the white witch as well-I think she played the character well. I loved when she was riding up to war in that carriage-she looked good.

Ermm...did anybody else feel hungry when Edmund was eating those turkish delights:?

Yeah.  The idea of bringing a 'Saviour' back from the dead to save the people was a bit much.  Wherever did they get that idea from? ;)

Seriously though that was one excellent film and a definite for the DVD collection.

As for King Kong.  Don't get me started.  I might just get all 'blacker than thou' on people's a**es about that one. lol

like i said king kong was foolish!

anyway another funny bit was when the witch's side kick got killed - the noise he made was jokes, everyone was laughing in the cinema!

And i was proper into those turkish delights the way edmund was eating them! eventhough i hate those things. he made me soooo hungry for them though they looked lovely. no wonder he tried to sell out his brother and sisters for them! lol

and narnia being sexual????? I can't see that one my self. LOL!

I also liked when the beaver looked at peter and said i aint gonna sniff it if that's what you're after - when peter was putting out his hand.

so funny.

a very good film for adults and kids.

Cashmoney & Backatya

Narnia was written by CS Lewis who was a heavyweight christian writer and Aslan's resurection is a metaphor for Jesus.  In fact the movie itself and some of the other narnia books are supposed to be about the book of revalations.

More of CS Lewis writings and opinions can be seen in the screwtape letters which even though I'm an unbeliever I found entertaining.

Blackbeauty.

I have all the chronicles of narnia and even as an adult they are worth reading.  Voyage of the dawntreader is probably the best after lion, witch and wardrobe

DM

There was a 'tongue-in-cheek' mishievousness in my comments ;)  I was aware of the association.

i realise all the links/symbolism etc

What i mean is that somebody as meticolous as the White Witch would have known about the loophole regarding killing non-traitors on that stone

She was The Queen Of Narnia, not some petty thug

Film was still good though

There was an article in The observer (I think recently by Kwame (forget his name) who was outlining the blatant stereotypes in the film. As expected he got slated by Euros and by some Africans too typically the "got a chip on shoulder why dont we ban everything" routine.

No doubt a Tarzan film will come again somewhere along the line...how they got away with that nonsense in the 70s/80s is breathtaking really.

Glad those films dont interest me anyway..and yes the orcs in Lord of the rings were distincly dark and scheeming. In fact if truth be told I like very little of the cartoon/film industry content for children. Got problems with Lion King/ Shrek the whole lot of them.

Glad you responded DM cause I was going to say the book lion witch and wardrobe is the same-in regards to the heavy Christian influence.

I may well get shot down in flames here but so be it.

I LOVED THE FILM.

For me it ticked all the boxes.

There was action , drama & a real connection between Kong & the girl.

The savages looked more fiji-en (spelling) than black but people from

that part of the world are not going to have blonde hair with blue eyes.

To capture it in its full glory you have to see it in the cinema.

Warning though even though its 12a I personally would not take anyone

under 13 to see the film.

I think Peter Jackson is one of the best directors around.

So what if the orks had dreads in Lord of the Rings ???

The Lord of The Rings Trilogy & King Kong are not racist movies as some

of you are trying to make out.

There just great movies.

Peter Jackson making the Star Wars prequels ........ now thats a thought.
