I love all kinds of movies; comedies, crime dramas, and love stories are my favorite.  But I have always been a fan of those 70's Blaxplotation films.. For the most part that was the first time in the history of American cinema where blacks could actually hold their heads high when they walked out the theater.. The majority of the films we did before that (in mainstream Hollywood anyway), we were either the docile servent, the ignorant illiterate that provided comic relief,or the emasculated black man with no balls, pride, or passion;or the loose hot in the pants tramp!!!:X But in the 70's ,all that sh*t changed ,we could finally look white people in the eye and tell them what we really thought ... The acting in most of the black 70' films was terrible and they were made on shoestring budgets, but at least we were "sticking it to the man"..Many people think the black 70's films are the reason for the 90's Hood movie .. Do we need to make more films like Ray, The Color Purple, and Eve's Byou ???????Can there be a balance or do we need more movies that tell hood tales??I personally think some quote un quote Hood films were brilliant .. Dead Presidents , Menace II Society, Set it Off , Boyz in the Hood, Baby Boy, Jacki Brown and Friday to name a few I thought were excellent films .. But do we need more "Soulfood" and less "Hustle and Flow" ? Can we do both.. I say yes we can....
