I just rewatched Dont Be a menace and the part that stood out this time was the quote from shane wayans about all the 'rappers taking the good acting jobs'
This film is over 10 years old and that stamement holds truer now more the ever
Now I never question a man who makes paper legally so I dont have anything against rappers in movies 'per sae', but watching Andre3000 unconvincing performance in 4 brothers just made me think that they could have gotten an actor for a fraction of the cost who could have given a good performance
also, is there any truth to the idea that having a rapper is defo a way to bring in a fanbase. I only watched 1 film specifically cos the rappers is in it. I dont wis to say what film as I dont wanna go off topic, but I think ya'll can guess
Belly had all the rappers under the sun , it still tanked. Soul Plane tanked, Be Cool tanked. Where is this proof of rapper equal bigger fanbase?
before I go off topic, do you think black 'actors' are an endagered species. Will the situation( which isnt so so bad, but could be better) get worse or will we see more trained actors coming through
Do you have to drop a rap/ rnb record before people( studios) give you a chance?
Just want to add, I'm not hating on this guys at all. Justa asking a question!!!
Any replies will be appreciated

I think true actors are always gonna find work in theater...etc..where you can't hide lack of talent.
when they cast rappers in films...the younger people go to see a film they maybe otherwise may not have paid to go see....
they play videos all day everyday here..so the rappers are very well known...
which is also why rappers are getting endorsement deals now more than ever.....they are very famous...
mainstream film industry is run by corporations and the films have to do well in their first weekends... an easy way to try to accomplish that is by casting famous rap and rck stars in minor roles to attract teens... some of the rappers have actual talent(Tupac, ice cube,)..others are just standing there looking terrible.....but as long as the seats are filled(first weekend) the studios don't care....

All about profile and exposure. I don't think you will ever get a lack of actors of any hue! the acting game is tricky, actors seem to spend more time out of work then in work. Rappers have this constant high profile and most of them seem to be acting in their on notorious dramas anyhow, so they rise the profile of the movie. This becomes a problem if the certain rapper can't act, or if the part requires complexities and range they cannot handle. This really isn't a problem as most parts especailly for black actors are light superfical supporting roles. So are black actors an endagered species? Yes as long as people keep writing roles any fool can play, but you really can't blame the rappers for this I believe. Blame the producers and writers, the audeince for only turning up to see an extention of somebody's album on screen.
