I absolutely LOVED this film.  It kept me on the edge of my seat.  It wasn't "over-the-top" scary, nor was it too simplistic.   Anyway, I highly recommend this film.  I want to talk about it but I don't want to spoil it for others....so I'll wait before posting details.

totally agree with you, timeline.

it wasnt particularly 'scary', and while i cant pin down what it was about the movie, it held my interest and attention to the end. the ending was also 'downbeat'.( how i like my endings).

niceone.gif  Wasn't it unique.  I think that is what held my attention.  And the ending made it one of a kind in my book.  There was so much anticipation and mystery in that old house.  The movie was like a love story, horror flick, drama all in one.  It was hard to gauge and separate the "good guys" from the "bad guys" because everyone had their historys and those pasts created the individuals/characters.  Even the ghosts had a troubled past as slaves that led to their seeming disconnection with other human beings....leading them to use them like toys.  I will definitely buy this when it comes out of DVD.

Thought the ending was classic, don't want to ruin it for anyone, but  'look who's laughing now' comes to mind.

.........I was gonna ask a question about a certain part of the film, but I will wait untill others have seen it.

It is by no means the best film ever made or anything but it was interesting.  clp)

That film must be the best film so far this year that I've seen.

SPOILER

The reason why I really liked this movie was because it wasn't just a meaningless horror flick in which you get many cheap thrills and no substance.  There was a lesson to be learned about transference.  Caroline employed transference to help her deal with her father's death.  She was unable to be by his side when he was sick and when he died so she transfered her guilt onto Ben and was determined to not allow him to die alone and uncared for.  She was supposedly disillusioned by the way caring for others had become a "business" and thus failed to see the reason why becoming too attatched to patients could be dangerous and counterproductive.  Her attatchment to Ben through her own transference would soon show her the effects of getting too involved.

I think Violet was the best character because she truly scared me. lol.  She even encouraged Caroline to let go of her dead father in an indirect way when she said:  "People worry too much about the time they have left and don't spend it living,"  as if to tell Caroline to charish her time left and charish the time she was able to spend with her father while he was alive rather than worry about his death.

There was also a love story hidden in this "horror" film.  Poppa Justify and Mama Cecil were taking the remaining years of these peoples lives in order to continue living...and continue living TOGETHER.  The lawyer screamed when Violet was thrown from the steps because he was unsure of her health, and I guess if she were to die in that body, then she would not have been able to continue on.  They wanted to continue to live together as a couple which showed that their love for each other surpassed the pain they caused others.  They were rather relaxed about the pain and suffering  they caused others as long as they ultimately ended up together once more.  Once Cecil became Caroline, she was reluctant to even ride with her and Ben to the hospital and asked Carolines friend Jill to ride in the ambalance while Cecil and Justify would follow.  Their ultimate goal was to remain together.

Ironically, Caroline did fufill her goal of not allowing Ben to die alone and providing moral support for him, because they were shown in the back of the ambalance together...realizing that they were both in the same boat.  They would not die alone.  She risked her life for him and he appreciated it (showed in his eyes).  Also, Caroline had fallen for the lawyer before knowing that the lawyer was in fact Justify, so perhaps she would have loved the real lawyer who was Ben.

Cecil really wanted to become a black girl, but Justify said " beggers can't be chosers" and "You know the black girls never stay."  I thought that was funny because it kinda hinted at the "typical" white girl behavior in a horror film to go and investigate even if their life is in danger.
