I thought the movie was unique.  The ending shocked me, unlike in the movie "The Sixth Sense" where I knew Bruce Willis was dead when he was shot in the stomach and they didn't show an ambulance taking him away confused3

It made me perceive the idea of "ghosts" in a different way...more indepth, that is.  I thought it creative that the fog around the house kept Nicole Kidman and her kids in that area and it represented the fact that they were stuck in time and space.  They were unable to "move on" because their lives stopped in that house and without it they were lost since they have no place in the future.  The husband coming out of the fog and then leaving to go BACK to the battle field shows this phenomenon at work.  He could not properly place himself at the house because he ended somewhere else.  He only came back to settle his thoughts of his wife and what she did.  What led him to Kidman was the fact that he did not want to believe that she killed their kids and herself.

Bertha (the old maid) gave me the creeps because she just looked scary lol but my favorite character was the little girl...she was the only one willing to accept reality and she wasn't afraid of the "ghosts" she was the easiest for the old lady to communicate with hence her possession and communication with victor.  Nicole Kidman's character was likable because her madness was explained...lack of sunlight (since her kids were allergic to the sun), and loneliness (since her husband was at war) led her to get depressed and go mad.  She relied on her faith  until not even it could sustain her (notice how adamant she was about the kids reading bible versus even as ghosts).  So it was hard for me to dislike a woman overwhelmed by her environment.

I enjoyed this one too!  The spooky ending caught me by surprise.  Saw it awhile back so I don't remember all the details, but overall a good movie.
